bottle from the bockyhorseys... pours a nearly black shade of brown topped by a thin foamy cocoa colored head. sweet, but not overly, aroma of prunes, dark chocolate, lightly burned dark raisins, cream, wood and molasses. medium sweetness on the palate. the flavor reminds me of burned high quality raisin nut bread that you eat even though it’s burned.... dark roast, molasses, vanilla, chocolate milk and a light sourness. dry and almost bitter finish leads to a coffee like aftertaste. medium to full bodied. prickly carbonation makes the mouth feel seem light and soft. alcohol warms the belly a bit and starts to leak out in my breath. this one pushes in to baltic territory without the typical sweetness... i’m liking it.

Courtesy of general_gao. Dark brown body with a small tan head. The nose is sharp and sweet with chocolate, molasses and licorice. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter with chocolate, brown sugar, raisins, licorice and roast. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation.

(12oz bottle, thanks General_Gao) Medium tan head atop cola-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some Bourbon, coffee. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, some vanilla/Bourbon. Sticky medium-full body, very low carbonation.

Lots of dark chocolate, caramel, and nougat in the aroma; sweet without being sticky; quite pleasant nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: some oiliness on the palate; chocolate, caramel, nougat (following the aroma), with some toasted vanilla and creaminess; very nice feel in the mouth; little alcohol showing through; very generous, creamy big porter. Lengthy finish: creamy chocolate, nougat, and toasty malts; a touch of dryness.

Aroma is hard coffee and hard roasted malt. Dark dark bronw pour. Malty flavor and hard coffee here as well. Smooth full rich flavor and palate. Very solid porter that is semi sweet and full. Yum

This poured a dark brown to black appearance with a beige head. This one was very roasty with lots of coffee and some chocolate in the aroma. The flavor contains the same with a hint of dark fruit. The finish is rather bitter. Overall this was a nice porter.

Flavor is toffee, molasses, and chocolate. A smooth, medium bodied beer. A really nice beer. Thanks to Bill, Wendy, and Wendy’s mom.

The body is a very dark mahogany that shows virtually black at first glance. A foamy, khaki colored head settles to a thin layer, leaving minimal, random flares of lacing on the glass. The aroma showcases contrasting sweet and roasty characters, including chocolate, caramel, and cream battling roasted barley, toasted grains, and a touch of salty soy. The flavor follows suit, with a chocolate and caramel malt base meeting toasted oak, earthy hops, and a slightly annoying soy sauce component. A substantial body feels a bit prickly in the back of the mouth, perhaps the result of over-carbonation meeting alcoholic heat. This is a big beer, and its on the right track, but a few tweaks could take it from solid to stellar in a hurry.
