Thanks to iowaherkeye for the bottle. Black body with traces of garnet at the edges which is topped with a mocha colored head. A sickeningly sweet smell came from this one. It’s like I walked into a low quality chocolate factory where they spilled coffee into a vat of chocolate. This smell also makes me think of urinal cakes and bad cigarette smoke. The taste has light notes of sugar sweetened coffee. There is also a little bit of milk chocolate and raisins in the finish. The body is fairly thin and helps this go down easy. At least the taste is much better than the smell. I am obviously missing something that others see in this beer.

12 oz bottle, via jcapriotti. Pours a clear dark brown body under a small very fizzy thinnish brown head that faded to a partial covering. Nose is heavy burnt caramel and roasted malt with a strong licorice and black strap molassas accent. The flavor has some cola and dry burnt acrid smoky notes that aren’t too pleasant. They obscure any chocolate notes I want in a Porter. A little chalk on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slick in texture with moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was quite poorly executed. Burnt and acrid with minimal resemblance to a decent Porter.

Black color; big creamy head. Mild and milky aroma of roasted malt. Good body strength; good mix of flavors, with caramel and chocolate malt, but maybe the roasted malt wins over them; the flavor is still quite sweet, even if the bitterness is correct; a bit dusty. In the end, there is more a milky roasted malt aftertaste. Very balanced brew, good.

12 ounce bottle from BBB63
Pours opaque dark brown with a fizzy light brown head.
The aroma is blended chocolate and roast, with grape skins, black licorice, yeast esters, and sharp grassiness.
Flavors are prune upfront. That roast and chocolate through the middle. Strong smooth bitter finish.
Fuller body. Sort of like hot chocolate made with milk. Higher than average carbonation. Dry finish.
A real pleasure to drink. Thanks Mike.

solid black color with a minimal khaki head. aroma of prunes, raisins, licorice, and spiced rum. lots of licorice and coffee. firm chocolate start, medium to full body. bitter chocolate and coffee dominate with a long well hopped finish. not overly complex, but quite enjoyable none the less.

Very dark brown body, cola-colored head. Lush body. Dark chocolate aromas, some burnt sugar and alcohol. Salty, bitter, chocolatey, roasty flavors. Some alcohol burn detracts a bit, in my opinion. Might be good to lay down?
