StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 10, 2008 Deep translucent chocolate with a cola like head fizzling at the top. Aroma sets the stage. Fudge bricks and bakers chocolate slaps with espresso beans lodged into the artifice. Burnt tar and broiled cocoa and prunes drum triumphantly with the abundant aromatic mocha character. Flavor produces quite a full mouthful with decadent milk chocolate and a touch of caramel talc commingling with cocoa powder. Chocolate milk with a chewy lactose sentiment. A sweet bitterness takes on traits of dynamic dark chocolate rather than a distracting burnt rawness found in much of the same style. Toffee bars melt to their simplest state of milk chocolate and gooey caramel ribbons. Controlled carbonation and a thick, chewy body, finishing with cocoa et caramel Tollhouse cookies good to the last drop. after4ever (1753), Brier, Washington, USA Feb 24, 2008 Updated: Feb 25, 200812-oz. Thanks, BitBucket! Pours inky black with a dense, moussy dark tan head. No lace, minimal film once the head settles. Huge roasty sweet molasses, vanilla, and chocolate nose, just delicious. Creamy body on the high side of medium with soft carb. Tons of roast, chocolate, molasses, vanilla, a wee note of plum, and then nice herbal to close the deal into the finish. Long sweet finish. Wonderful stuff. bitbucket (1572), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2008 Bottle, thanks to CaptainCougar. Pours opaque blackish brown with a lacy tan head. Sweet chocolate and vanilla nose. Creamy medium body. Sweet taste of roasty malt. coffee, chocolate, vanilla, molasses. Just lots and lots of good stuff, all at once. A bit of pine shows up in the finish. This was a dandy! buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Jul 9, 2007 Updated: Oct 13, 2007Bottle from ( The Coffee Grounds ) in Eau Claire. Pours pretty much black with a nice tan head. Aroma is malts, fermented fruits, cocoa, and pretty big black licorice. Flavor is malty, ripened fruits, chocolates, and I also noticed nice hints of licorice & molasses. I was very impressed with this one. It was nice to see Sand Creek kick it up a notch and brew a bigger limited release beer. CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 19, 2007 Bottle: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with ruby hues and a clingy-laicng dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a hint of dark fruits. Body starts with nice fullness and sweet, sticky caramel and dark chocolate flavor with a touch of raisins and roasty coffee toward the slightly drier and more bitter finish. A nice, complex and balanced imperial porter.
