kmweaver (1800), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 9, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of General_Gao. Thanks, Colin! Pours a slightly oily, dark cola-brown color; mostly headless. Lots of dark chocolate, caramel, and nougat in the aroma; sweet without being sticky; quite pleasant nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: some oiliness on the palate; chocolate, caramel, nougat (following the aroma), with some toasted vanilla and creaminess; very nice feel in the mouth; little alcohol showing through; very generous, creamy big porter. Lengthy finish: creamy chocolate, nougat, and toasty malts; a touch of dryness.

Dark brown black with a thin watery beige tan head and no lacing. Smell is Chinese food and sweet malt - huge soy sauce notes in there. Flavor is overly sweet and malty. Palate is nearly creamy but falls short. Overall, just a bit too sweet for me but not horrible. lb4lb (1267), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of buckybeer. Thanks!
Pours a nice dark black with small short lived light tan head. Smell is dark fruit, light roastiness and a good amount of soy sauce and molasses. Taste is bitter dark fruit with some ashiness and soy. Lingering burnt flavor. Medium to thin body with medium carbonation and a tiny hint of alcohol in the aftertaste. Decent. mar (505), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 28, 2008 bottle thanks to miketd. black pour with a thin caramel head. thick chocolate and roasted malts with a slight alcohol tingle on the nose. a little thinner than i was expecting but the big chocolate and coffee flavors make up for that. awesome job on this brew. CharlesDarwin (1323), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2008 12oz Bottle. Aroma is surprisingly bourbon-like with rich malt, supported with some aged dark roast character. Imperial Stout notes. Slightly tangy malt. Interesting. Pours a thinner brown-black, with a rim of tan. Flavor is an enjoyable caramel, light roast, and brown sugar. This beer is unassuming, it has a distinctly ale-like imperial character that is well melded and pleasing. The flavor is more like a barleywine, that is just dark-looking. The sharpness that does come from the roast balances the beer as it joins a curt edge of hops. In the end, actually quite hoppy. I think I like this because it has that distinctly oxidized East Kent Golding-like hop flavor that for some bizarre reason I really enjoy in aged stronger beers. If I had tasted this blind, I would have said it was a weak blend of Bells Expedition Stout and Third Coast Old Ale. Interesting. I had lower expectations, so this was a pleasant surprise. I actually like this, hoppy, well-aged, subtle, but kind of off as a Porter. More like a dark B-wine. Thanks Steve! hellbilly (768), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA May 17, 2008 bottle from the bockyhorseys... pours a nearly black shade of brown topped by a thin foamy cocoa colored head. sweet, but not overly, aroma of prunes, dark chocolate, lightly burned dark raisins, cream, wood and molasses. medium sweetness on the palate. the flavor reminds me of burned high quality raisin nut bread that you eat even though it’s burned.... dark roast, molasses, vanilla, chocolate milk and a light sourness. dry and almost bitter finish leads to a coffee like aftertaste. medium to full bodied. prickly carbonation makes the mouth feel seem light and soft. alcohol warms the belly a bit and starts to leak out in my breath. this one pushes in to baltic territory without the typical sweetness... i’m liking it.
