A dark brown appearance with a tan head. The aroma is molasses, brown sugar, raisins, and honey. The flavor is rather sweet with some raisins, caramel, molasses, and brown sugar. A full mouthfeel on this one. Hard to tell this one is 10.2% ABV. Overall a really good beer.

The pour yields a dark, translucent, chestnut brown to ruby red body with a large but fleeting tan colored head. Minimal, spotty lacing marks the glass. The aroma shows darkly caramelized malts, brown sugar, figs and dates. A hint of vanilla cream smooths things out, with mildly earthy hops lending just a touch of balance. Flavors are again heavily malt driven, caramel and sweet, dark fruits dominating. A hint of allspice adds some bite to the finish. The body feels like its lacking carbonation a bit, and it feels sweet and sticky. I am literally shocked to see that this brew weighs in at a whopping 10.2% ABV, as hardly any of that alcohol is noticeable. Overall, this is a pretty decent doppelbock, but it fails to exceed expectations in any particular area.

Appearance: clear dark ruby red, wispy beige head,
Aroma: sweet dark caramel aroma, touch of hot caramel, ripe fruits, drying earthyness,
Body: highly carbonated body,
Flavor: rich malt flavor, hint of caramel sweetness, light earthyness adds dryness, cutting down the carbonation brings out more of of the caramel character plus a touch of chocolate,

Pours to a glowing clear orange brown body with a tall lively foamy light-brown head. The aroma is caramel and toffee. Some sweet hops. The flavor is extremely caramelized toffee. Super long lasting sweetness. A drying thing with the yeasts. Palate kind of drags it down. I made bread with it because I was unimpressed. (Have yet to try it).

Probably Sand Creek’s best product. Grain and caramel aroma. Flavor has molassas and caramel, and a sort of meaty, grain quality of a German doppelbock. Medium palate. Dark brown. Enjoyable. Thanks Joe.

(bottle shared by Joebrew) Pours reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is predominately cherry mixed with a musty grain smell (which I normally find to be offensive, but not so with this beer). There are also subtle smells of chocolate and honey that continue to blend with the cherry and must aromas. The taste is very good, with a toasty flavor present along with tastes of chocolate and raisin as well. The 10.2% abv. is present, but does not dominate over the other flavors. I found this beer to be somewhat similar to the Fishtale Detonator, and if I was ever in the mood to drink a solid doppel, this would definitely be one of my first choices.
