The aroma has big roasted and charred vapours, coffee and milk chocolate, grassy hops, and a chalky yeast and prune ester. The taste is shockingly milk chocolate sweet at first with a hint of lactic acid for good measure. Also found a heavy charred and smoky finish with a dash of fruity twang somewhere in there too. The mouth feel is a tad too thin and sprite, ashy finish. All in all this is a solid stout that with a few tweaks could be really good. Now we bow our heads to pray... Pleasant roasted aroma. Has some brownie-like chocolaty notes and mocha roast. Quite inviting. The body is a bit watery, but the flavor carries decent character. There’s an underlying doughy tartness, but its accompanied by rich chocolate/mocha roast. The flavor are harmonious, and it worked for me. A tasty organic Stout. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 3, 2007 Poured a very dark copper brown color with a tan head. Huge milk chocolate aroma. Kind of fruity with some notes of ash mixed in. The flavor was dull. Roasted malt and lightlytart. Some more notes of ash with a dry roasted bitter finish. Light body. Loads of milk chocolate and soft coffeeish aroma. Nice roasty character with some soft fruity esters over the top. Light silky texture through the middle. There is a light herbal character that might suggest infection, but it’s pretty good right now. Lingering roast. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 30, 2007 picked up at the Bottle Barn Santa Rosa, CA back in May...
Appears a dark brown, near black with a tan head that fades into a small cap. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of cocoa, peanut skins, and some tartness mixed with wet tin.
Taste is somewhat bland with highlights of nuts, cocoa, hazelnut, dirty herbs, and bitter chocolate.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, tart, bitter, roasty, with that metal flavor coming through again. bhensonb (4374), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2007 Bomber from Bottle Barn. Aroma of rich, dark chocolate. Really chocolate. It’s dark and opaque. The tan head only amounted to a few bubbles and a light ring. Medium in body with mild, but sharpish, carbonation. Velvety smooth. The flavor starts smoky, toasted malts. Better than Guinness. The chocolate is muted by the malt. The mouth is coated with something that seems like toast mixed with chocolate. The finish is a bit thin, the dark chocolate persists, and there is arguably some hop bitter (though with the toastiness it’s hard to tell). Seems seriously underrated. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Deep opaque brown body, thick brown head. Rich chocolate and roasted malt aroma with ample sweetness. The body exhibits a woody dryness, but lacks the astringent acidity that plagues the thinnest stouts. Dark chocolate notes with modest sweetness are prominent. Rich body features a pleasant lingering cocoa aftertaste. Nice, robust stout.
