Commercial Description:
Chicken Killer Barley Wine is the revolutionary beer that will someday define America's unique Barley Wine style. It is brewed with twice the ingredients of the Santa Fe Brewing Company's other beers, and only half the usual amount of liquid is extracted from these ingredients. This makes one strong beer. At over ten percent alcohol, Chicken Killer is actually as strong as wine, but this is not to say that it is difficult to drink. On the contrary; be careful with this one. The flavors of the beer are at first as overwhelming as the intense Santa Fe sun. But in the same way our sun gives us the unrivaled brilliant colors of Santa Fe, the potency of Chicken Killer gives us the remarkable spectrum of flavors that can be found in no other beer, in no other city. If you did not have the opportunity to try last year's vintage, come try this year's! Malts: 2-row pale, 30-37 l. Carastan, 135-165 l. Crystal Hops: Chinook, Hallertau, Crystal

Clear copper color with a frothy khaki head. Nice pit fruit malty sweet aroma. Medium body. Malty sweet barleywine flavors of dates, figs with a light touch of bug spray infection. Bad bottle?

(Bottle) Pours a reddish amber color with a small tan head. Strong malty aroma. Taste is very malty as well, with just a hint of hops in the finish. Includes notes of caramel, molasses, and sweet toffee. Light citrus as well. I agree that this is a pretty drinkable barleywine, with only light alcohol notes.

Pours with a mess of foam. Is this bottle conditioned? I don’t think so. Medium/dark amber in color. Off white dense head. Sappy malt aroma. Almost syrupy malty flavor, sweet, sugary, and molasassy; Is that a word?Almost milky texture. Descent hoppy tasting finish. A thick barely wine that is pretty sweet, hides its’ % well and, well, yes, it does satisfy.

Cloudy amber with an off-white head. Caramel, grapefruit and piney hops in the nose. Flavor starts with heavy caramel/toffee, resinous pine, grapefruit and a touch of raisin. Full, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. Very good.

Pours a lightly hazy, dark copper-amber color with a frothy, cream colored head. Lacing was mostly wet and sudsy, with a few lingering sticky spots. Aromas were pretty straightforward, with notes of sweet caramel, toffee, toasted bread, and bold, peppery citrus hops. There is a touch of an annoying, medicinal alcoholic note that isn’t too appealing. Flavors were basically the same, with the caramelized malts being countered by substantial orange and grapefruit hop bitterness. That medicinal heat tends to linger, getting in the way of what would otherwise be a really nice brew. Medium-full, syrupy body. Decent brew, but not something I’ll be rushing back for.
