KRock (3), USA does not count Jul 13, 2006 One of the best porters brewed in America. If you’re a porter fan- definately try it! fly (1239), austin, Tejas, USA Jun 22, 2005 Ha, old notes don’t die, they just get lost for a long time. I wonder though .. drinking an old, infected or otherwise corrupted sample might be just the same as adding comments about a brew that may well have changed substantially over time. While this was fine as my rating should reflect, I get the idea that it has been tweaked for the better. I found it somewhat thin and overly roasted when I had it some ten years ago. Still I recollect not only thinking that it was a fair example of the style, but now I long to go back to the porch of the brewery on a day like I had there, being the only ones on a Saturday morning looking out over the countryside. Sigh. Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Feb 14, 2005 22 oz hand bottled bottle thanks to whaleman. pours a deep brown/crimson hue with a small beige head. subtle aroma of chocolate, char and smoke. a little metalic flavor at start with notes of hershey chocolate and black patent malt. body was thin unfortunately. medium carbonation. as the beer warms, the flavors start to show more. being this low of abv, i will say its pretty good. however, with a little more tlc, this could be a great porter. whaleman’s sample at the brewery must have retained more body and flavors compared to my bottle. whaleman (2168), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 27, 2005 Draught at the brewpub and a different batch than the available bottled version. Translucent red-brown body with a lacy, light tan head. Nice balanced chocolate and coffee aroma and flavor. Pure mocha. Not overly roasty like too many American porters. Nice medium, smooth body. A very stylish and tasty classic porter. My favorite porter brewed in New Mexico to date. I’d love to campout with a growler of this. Thanks to Nick for tapping this fine beer.
