BuckNaked (1195), Tempe, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2008 12oz bottle: Bottle conditioned. Pours to a clear pale yellow-amber colored body with a small white head that quickly fades. Aroma is fresh apples, sweet pale malt, sweet wheat. Taste first hits the tongue with a bit of sweet, but not cloying, wheat, then a very slight earthy/grassy bitterness from the hops that remains throughout the notes of apple, pale malt that follow. Mild-medium carbonation, light bodied, finishes with lightly sweet wheat and faint hints of the hops felt on the back of the tongue and roof of the mouth. Very easy to drink and non-offensive, but it has a ways to go in flavor, body, and appearance before this one really shines as a wheat. geherald (8), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA does not count Jul 29, 2008 Once Again!! Water tastes metallic, like the beer is fermented in rusty steel drums. Not as bad as the other Santa Fe beers, but thats not hard to do. Decent aroma, a little yeasty, a touch of clove, but not much of anything. tomthompson89 (1119), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 21, 2008 clear yellow with a quickly gone head. nose is wheat, kinda yeasty, some clove. flavor is yeast wheat some banana not a bad wheat but nothing wild.Solid. General_Gao (2480), Iowa City, Iowa, USA May 10, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured a clear golden color. Head was bubbly, white, and reduced over a few minutes to a thin film. Pleasant, but subdued aromas of citrus (lemon and orange), biscuity malt, and flowery hops. Didn’t remind me of a hefe, despite the commercial description. Light bodied and a little sweet. The flavor was malt dominated with the hops playing second fiddle. Caramel, biscuits, and pancakes with a dash of sawdust, and light grassy hops. That pretty much sums up the flavor, but there was also a corny note that didn’t sit right with me. So so. valpoaj (287), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Mar 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 30, 2008Pours cloudy golden with medium white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is pretty spicy...and full of wheat, but citrus, primarily lemon, tries to dominate as well...very much like a Witbier. Flavor is very, very wheaty...to the point of excess, and is actually a bit bitter near the end of the drink. Relatively heavy on the body for a wheat as well, and the flavor just isn’t doing it for me. Not in a rush to get this one again. Update from the following morning...this was my first drain pour in some time, but I think it may have been due to a bad bottle, because the wheat flavor was almost rotten in flavor...really too heavy for the style, as I like my wheats to drink easily...just not a good drink!
