joss (3632), Garching b. München, Germany Oct 8, 2009 Can. Not much aroma. Pale yellow, collapsing head. Actually ok mouthfeel, sparkly and chewy, grassy hops on straw malt. Quite ok. Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan Oct 4, 2009 Appearance: Straw yellow.
Aroma: Interesting earthy and floral hops.
Flavor: Moderate hop bittering and carbonation initially dominate the mild malt which shows some apple/pear/grapefruit and grain flavors on the mid-palate. Soft bittering hops carry through the finish
Comment: The hop/malt balance is better than many all malt Japanese beers in that hop bittering isn’t hidden by sweet malt giving the impression of being a bit drier. The downside is that the malt is a bit thin, though I prefer this to sweeter beers that lack bitterness. A good tingly carbonation combined with the hops make this an OK, light summer lager. A bit better than I expected. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Oct 3, 2009 Can.
Brewed in Hokkaido, and only available here. An all-malt lager. Light golden color, usual. A nice, full-malt, slightly sweet aroma. Fruity with decent hops in there. Very fruity, slightly sweet, full malt flavor, with decent hops. Pretty nice tasting beer. Better malt flavor and fruitier than Ebisu, with less hops than it has, but still ok. It is reminiscent of Sapporo Black label, but lighter, hoppier, and with the a full malt taste. Not bad at all for a regular ¥207. imdownthepub (5089), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Sep 14, 2009 Tin, 500ml in a Chinese Restaurant in York. Yellow gold with fizzed white head. Firstly its great to seek out an unexpected rating, it takes the edge off even bad beer, and this is bad. Corny with wet cardboard notes, super cold to cut through the hot spices. Time and place I suppose. probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2009 500 ml can from Japan (thanks Pa!), shared with Luc, served cold in a tulip glass. MA26/09.
App.: Clear golden with a nice white froth.
Aroma: Straight-forward malts with some wet hay and grass, slightly citrus hops.
Palate: Medium body and fairly soft carbonation, smooth like a Pils.
Flav.: Light cereal and malt, light Saaz hops – kinda grassy and peppery; dry with some bitterness, nice light malt finish.
A very drinkable lager. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 30, 2009 Golden lager with a thick white head. A crisp malt aroma with grainy notes and German hops. In mouth, a light biscuitty malt with german hops, a bit oily in mouthfeel. Medium bodied. 500 mL can fshared rom probstk, May 26 2009. beerfest5 (128), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA Mar 8, 2009 Wow, this was the tastiest beer ive ever had, oh wait, no.....its terrible. LordCorkscrew (939), Ronco Scrivia (GE), Italy Feb 22, 2009 Normalissima e piuttosto pessima lager giapponese bevuta al ristorante giapponese vicino all’università a Torino. Dopo siamo andati a fare il giro in barca sul Po.
