| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 3, 2008 About as pale yellow as pale lagers get. Fizzy 7up like head that dissipates within seconds. Fairly nice nose for a pale lager with notes of wheat, yeast, and grass. Hop and malt apparent in the taste which has a nice little hoppy snap to it. As is usual with pale lagers, there’s no finish. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 1, 2008 A decent lager with a bite at the end...not too big. Goes great with sushi and compliments hot sake making the beer taste sweeter and really brings out the hops and malts. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Apr 29, 2008 12 oz. bottle: Beery yellow pour with a fizzy head. The nose is really nothing special - some corn syrup, rotted vegetal notes and grassy hops. Thin, watery body offers little in addition to the nose. A smallish honey note rises from the corn and grass, but it is hard to detect. Drinks easy, but that isn’t saying much. Very watery and boring. I wasn’t expecting much, but this even fell short of those expectations. I would choose Singha every day of the week and twice on Sunday over this "beer." Bradrcr (781), Renton, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Aroma is ultra corny, sweet, with a low noble hop background. Appearance is clear yellow with a low white head . Flavor is sharp and pils tangy, with earthy bittering. Mouthfeel is light bodied with a medium carb feel. Overall, simple and dry; not too refreshing.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Apr 25, 2008 bottle with sushi. I prefer this over the kirin, the other widely avaiable pale lager available at sushi restaurants. More maltiness with slightly bitter finish. troysworktable (109), Washington, USA

What is the aesthetic import of "ethnic" cuisine upon the enjoyment of a particular beer? Do the background, country of origin, or lineage of the beer affect the food?
The excitation of senses—visual, nasal, and palatal—is influenced by the atmosphere and environment of Happy Teriyaki #11, as well as the Japanese associations of the restaurant, whether known or not, conscious or subconscious, wrong or right. What would be mediocre or banal in other circumstances, is here transformed, albeit minimally.
The slight spiciness of Sapporo is brought forth by teriyaki and tonkatsu. It is this minor hint of flavor that saves Sapporo, at least in this instance, from being just another run-of-the-mill pale lager. It is not spectacular, by any means, but it will suffice. And, it makes the meal complete. MacAnUltaigh (45), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2008 Not much in the way of the aroma, but there is a nice lightly hoppy nose. Pours a modest, clear golden color with a textbook frothy head. Flavor is malty as it can be without running the show. Great use of the hops as this beer is neither too bitter nor too tame on the palate. Something happens during the finish that leaves me thirsty for more of this brew whether it be on draught, in a can, or in a bottle. One of my favorite "anytime" lagers.
