Sampled on Flashy’s tour of LA, New Zealand and Hong Kong of September/October 2007 - This is OK. Good to knock back with a Jap, Chinese or Thai meal, but wouldn’t want to drink too many in the pub as a little bit soapy and metallic in taste. Smooth, ricey and dry though.

If you like vinegar, you might like this beer. I’ve not had any other Japanese beer to compare against, but I certainly won’t order this one again.

Nose of malt and rice. Pours clear. Taste is similar to Asahi or Tiger = poor.

bottle- drank this in a ill advised comparison tasting against Tiger. Little or no difference between the two. Japenese Coors light, ricey, with some herbal tea quality. Not the worst.

Bottle 4.7 %. Golden looks. Malty, somewhat dry. Some bittery aftertaste. Pretty good. Tasty and nicely balanced. It may even be a bit too tasty for delicate japanese dishes.

Smells like youd expect, ugly yellow color. grassier than youd expect too, lager flavor isnt too bad. i remember drinking this in college and thinking how much better than corona it was. id still take it over a corona, but its a little watery and bland.

Sapporo used to be my fav of the Japanese standard lagers back in Asia .... so being back in Europe, I thought, I might enjoy this one for a change ... appearance (nice tiny bubbles) and the smell were quite o.k. ... however when I took the first sip I almost puked ... next thing is, I read the label more closely (which I should have done in the shop) which says in small prints "brewed and bottled under licence in the EU" (it doesn’t even say where, my best guess is Czech Rep.) ... the trouble with the Jap-brews "under licence" is, that they try to copy the Japanese lager style (the malty bitter dryness), failure of which seems to be almost certainly guaranteed (other examples are Asahi, Kirin, ...) ...
