Light malt sweetness in nose and flavor. Very low hop rate.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 2, 2003 An interesting brew that delivers far more hop value that one would traditionally expect from dry Japanese ale. I’m a big fan of IPA and ESB’s, and love sushi, so tend to scope this one out when I’m looking for something a little different with some fresh cut fish. Sapporo’s regular beer’s are quite uneventful, but the Stout Draft from their Yebisu brand is a nice alternative.
This one, like traditional Japanese lager/pilsener styled beers, pours very very light, with moderate carbination and little to no head. Because of the high hop count, the aroma on this one is quite pungent and may catch many off guard.
The name itself is quite a misnomer, calling it a stout, when it’s anything but that. It’s mildly spritzy, almost fruity, and delivers a heck of a punch in the aftertaste department. It’s not a beer that I’m wild about simply drinking on its own, but as an accompaniment with some great food, this beer is definitely a winner.

Light gold color, no head, too much carbonation, flat taste. Stick with standard Japanese brews Kirin and Sapporo Draft. Bought at sam’s in chicago for $2.49
