Has a synthetic, "beery" macro flavor with a moderate amount of bitterness in the finish. Dryish, bland aftertaste. One of the better Asian beers I’ve had; take that as you will. | 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 29, 2002 Misleadingly labeled "stout draft," this brew was blonde-gold with moderately rising carbonation and a creamy head that settled nicely. The aroma was of a sweet pilsnerish and alcohol I have come to expect of dortmunders--possibly with the appearance of malt and straw. The flavor is deadened though it has corn syrupy notes and some skunkiness at the back of the palate. One of the more drinkable dortmunders I have so far tried, beertvguy (3), Burbank, California, USA does not count | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Nov 9, 2002 Straw color. Head dissipated quickly. Aroma was barely there but slightly sweet. Moderate body. Nice clean malt flavor. Grassy notes. Carbonation slighty too high, bites the tongue. Lingering hop dryness in finish.
Didn’t appreciate it stand-alone, but it paired quite well with california roll and spicy tuna sushi. loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 8, 2002 When I asked the waitress at a local Japanese restaurant what beers they had, she began naming the usual. When she said "Yebisu," I stopped her and asked what kind of beer that is. She replied, "Oh, it’s a Japanese stout." Naturally, I was interested (always looking to try a new stout). Needless to say, I was greatly dissapointed with what I got. On the label, it says, "Stout Draft." Anyway, it’s not a terrible beer. A slight malty aroma, and just a little bitterness in the finish. Basically decent. CaptainCougar (5532), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 4, 2002 Has a soft hoppy aroma with a pale malty appearance. Light somewhat musty flavor with a sweeter aftertaste. The hops taste like they spent a few months on a cargo ship in the Pacific. If this were governed by US laws, the Better Business Bureau would have them remove the word "Stout" from the label. I’d say it’s better than most American macros, but not by much. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 30, 2002 a dortmunder all right, so marks for getting within a discernible style at least. apart from the fact that it gets it’s own exciting category at ratbier, there isn’t to much to say about this stuff. light, but syruppy mouthfeel. at first it’s really dry, then leaves behind an unclean cheesy bitterness. prefer suntory malt’s for a japanese dortmunder.
