I’ve been seeking out this beer for a few years to rate now but it always seems to sell out quickly at festivals. Doesn’t live up to my memories when I’ve sampled it before. Liquorice and chocolate. Slightly thin and sweet with noticeable alcohol. There are some good flavours here but I wouldn’t want more than a half. TheGrandMaster (1875), Auckland, New Zealand

Half pint gravity fed from the cask at the Ealing Beer Festival, a dark dark black with a bubbly beige head. A strong molasses aroma, with plenty of alcohol - whiskey notes. Very smooth in the mouth at first, but becomes more spicy and tangy through the swallow. A bit of coffee and a bit of chocolate in the malty flavour. Delicious. cgarvieuk (4215), Edinburgh, Scotland

Slightly liquorice and blackberry. Really wish it was stronger. Gorgeous black / ruby colour. No head or lace. Slightly bitter flavour with definite liquorice, blackberry and red wine grapes. Strong alcohol finish.
