Commercial Description:
Saranac Big Moose Ale is an American Pale Ale with a kick. The medium-bodied malt sweetness is balanced by a nice crisp bitterness from hand selected centennial and cascade hops. Look for a vibrant citrusy hop aroma that will leave you craving another swig!

Aroma is inoffensive, if a little boring. Caramel, toasted malts on the nose. Not a lot in the way of hops. Amber color, thin white head typical of the style. The flavor is caramel, flowers, grass, toasted malts. Decent, not great. The mouthfeel is thin/medium, lots of carbonation. The finish is resiny hops. Not bad at all, not outstanding.

Dec. 27, 2009; 12 oz. bottle (fr. sampler 12-pack). Lovely dark amber pour; sustained head; malty aroma; sour citrus hops are nicely balanced by the candy-sweetness of the malt. The trademark Saranac harshness has, happily, been rounded-off in what may be one of this brewery’s better efforts. Would love to see this specialty brew promoted to a regular offering.

Bottle: Thanks JoeMcPhee! Deep copper/orange pour with good clarity and an off white film of head. Buttery, stale maltose aroma with subdued citrusy hops. Thin bodied and over carbonated. Fairly dry, though with a light grainy note. Over-attenuated and papery. Prickly with faded hop character. Fizzy and restrained.

Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Floraly hop aroma with some light crackery malts. The flavor is balanced with some crisp floral hops and light pale malts. Medium bitter finish. Pretty good.

A mildly hoppy beer. It does not overwhelm the palate---not complex in flavor. A good beer after working outside nin the cold---accompaning a warm lunch.

A pretty hoppy brew from Saranac. Tastes like it’s been aggressively hopped, fairly bitter, nice amount of malts to even out the flavor, medium body. Great to stay warm on a bitter upstate NY night.
