The finish was moderate length, dry and toasty. Medium body. Decent. tgncc (818), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Smell of toasted malts, lighest hint of chocolate (not really enough). The appearance is a deep brown, ruby hue, off-white head. The flavor is toasted malts, light chocolate, no hint of the chocolate, roasty flavors which are indicative of the style. The finish is light hop bittering, followed by a malt sweetness, actually odd. The mouthfeel is medium, high in carbonation burn. Ok, but far from great. jimmack34 (567), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Pours a dark amber with a slight off white head. Zesty aromas of spice, grass, light toffee, light bubblegum, and some wood. Flavors of light wood, slight caramel, slight toffee, and a touch of hop. Kind of boring. puboflyons (606), New Hampshire, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle numbered 2879-0918. When I think of a black lager I think of a much darker pour than this was. It poured a mahogany-ruby red with almost no head on top. The aroma was somewhat neutral and unspectacular with a bit of nuttiness and weak hops. The mouthfeel was a bit better than medium. Its taste was bitter and slightly sour but also unremarkable. I did not notice anything like coffee or chocolate as advertised.
