| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 2, 2009 This ale poured a deep red colour with a nice, big, frothy, light tan head with a little lacing. To the nose there are scents of ripe fruit, baby powder, caramel and nuts. First swig was very smooth and creamy but a slight bit watery. Reasonably flavourful with flavours of malts, caramel and a little hopp flavour in the form of spruce? Finish was slightly bitter with hopps lingering with a floral caramel. Appearance: Reddish brown color with a frothy, light tan head.
Aroma: A little nutty, some light malt notes, and some light hop notes.
Flavor: Surprisingly bitter given the malt nose. Still, the nut and caramel notes try to balance out the bitterness, which tends to linger on the tongue.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium-long, bitter finish.
Overall: I would like a bit more depth, but it certainly isn’t the worst brown ale you can find. CUJO (357), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 26, 2009 bottle: pint glass: pours a deep, dark copper leaving 2 fingers of dry, tan head. Lots of sugars and malts... weird... some esters, bitter, not as creamy as I would like... actually a bit burnt/ overcooked. wvudan (10), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA

Chestnut brown colour with a stained thin lace clinging to glass then resting on top of the beer. Very drinkable ale. Flavour of malt with a nutty feel. Bitter hop finish. Tasty brown ale, little thin in body. yesyouam (602), Fairport, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Saranac Brown Ale is a very clear solid brown ale with a thin, dense, bubbly head that has outstanding lacing and retention. There is a light, nutty sweetness to the aroma, along with a note of chocolate and grassy, herbal hops. It is medium bodied and smooth with a quick, dry finish. It tastes very nutty, lightly sweet with a light herbal bitterness. There is chocolate in the aftertaste. I have no complaints. This is a well done brown ale.
