Commercial Description:
Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy.

Bottle from the Saranac Winter mixpack. The aroma is a nicely balanced caramel and malt smell. The taste is caramel and some fruit but mainly caramel. Theeers caramel is present from the initial smell all the way down your throat and then the caramel kind of dances on your tongue and gradually fades away. This is one of the best Saranac beers I have ever had. Would buy again

Rating #400 for the beer. Brown pour, smallish tan head. Aroma is just unreal. Smells just like a butterscotch candy. I could sniff this glass all night. Flavor does not live up to the aroma. It is smooth enough, but the flavor is a bit unbalanced and a tad odd. I could drink this again, but this beer wins with its aroma!

Pours a dark brown color with a medium thick beige head that diminishes steadily. Caramel malt aroma with a light roasted character. Medium body with flavors of caramel, malt and charred marshmallow. The finish is sweet caramel and toffee with a short malty aftertaste. Overall this beer is one-dimensional and average, like most beers from this brewer.

The initial aroma is of sweet caramel... The initial taste is of the same sweet caramel, and initially, the taste is quite palatable... BUT, the lingering roastiness and the generic hoppiness muddle the sweetness of the caramel that should come through... If you take a sip every couple of minutes after your palate has cleared, this is an ok beer...

All the good qualities of a porter and none of the bad. Good aroma, smooth flavor which has a hint of the heavy porter maltiness. The caramel lightens it up and takes away some of the typical bite. Little to no aftertaste.

12 oz bottle from a trade with funknmilla. pours nice dark brown almost black with a fizzy tan head that is quickly gone. aroma of caramel syrup, butterscotch. the aroma is so sickly sweet i dont even want to try a sip. oh my god im goin to puke. terrible sweet caramel butterscotch syrup that coats your tounge in disgusting foul candied badness. maybe this would be good on vanilla ice cream........? k im back the vanilla ice cream thing is ok but even then this is a foul creation. i did bump up my overall from 1 to 3 because i could finish my icecream but as a beer this is a 0.7.
