Commercial Description:
Saranac Pale Ale is a classic English Pale Ale brewed with six specialty malts and aggressively-hopped with hand-selected English Kent Goldings & Fruggles hops. Look for a rich fruity hop bouquet. A copper amber color and a smooth, full-flavored taste with a crisp finish that only comes from a genuine top fermented ale. Enjoy!

12oz bottle. Orange/red/amber hued body with a nice thick light tan head. About 2.5 fingers thick, dense and creamy, with good retention. Some excellent lacing for the style is present as well. A really good looking beer. Nose of bitter citrus hops, floral perfume hops, caramel malt, sweet fleshy fruits and some soapy notes. Fore is pretty heavily astringent and bitter, rolling along the tongue we get sweet caramel malts and some sweet citrus fruits. Back end is more of the same, leading to a healthy dose of bitterness in the swallow. This thing isn’t perfect or super in your face or anything like that, but damn if I don’t like it quite a bit. I could knock a few of these back as a session brew. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, slightly oily. Finish is bitter, lengthy, then at the very end some watery notes. Good beer.

Bottle at EsBF09. Clear amber colour. Small off-white head. The flavour is subtly malty with a hint of grain. Gets a bit sour in the finish. Very rough bitterness, a bit unpleasant.

Clear light brown with a little reddish color. Aroma is of malts, some hops, caramel, and a slight smoked scent in the back end. Taste has malt, hops, and a slight dried fruit taste. Leave a rather smooth aftertaste. Nothing too impressive, but it’s worth trying out.

Bottle from Saranac Trail Mix six pack. Pours a crystal clear copper amber color with a beige head. Good retention of lacing along the glass. Floral hop and roasted malt aroma. Initial flavor is more malty than hoppy but there is a fair amount of bitterness in the finish. Prickly carbonation in the mouthfeel. Decent overall, but I’m not too crazy about the somewhat bland aftertaste.

Not exciting, just something new to try. Flower smell, crisp and thin. There are better pale ales in this price range.
