Commercial Description:
Perfect for drinking around a crackling fire, this malty German style Lager is brewed with Bamberg smoked malt using only the best German hops and traditional lager yeast. Look for a smooth malty flavor with a hint of smoke in the finish.

Golden copper colored liquid with a fine head. Nose is malty and not just a hint smoky. Nice malty flavor a little thin and a little metallic. not really all that smoky. Kinda thin. A little like a lager. finishes rather unremarkable. not really sure what they were going for here, but they missed.

I heard a lot about smoked beers, and I have to say this was not entirely what I expected. It’s aroma was distinctley malt, not so roasty as I expected. It was a coppery color, with a thin slice of white head. It’s flavor was malty for sure, with some smoke, but not much. It’s smooth, a nice session, but not what I expected. It’s average.

Bottle; pours a dark gold/light copper color with only a thin sheet of white head. Aroma had a lot of biscuit and apple, but not alot of smoke. Flavor was much of the same; not alot of smokiness at all. I kind of liked that, since I’m not a big fan of the style. That being said, its not a good representation of the style. Some good nutty and caramel flavors. Overall it was decent, just not very true to the style.

Bottle. Pours thin and brown, with a lazy head of off-white. Aroma is barely detectable smoke and sugar. Flavor has smoke in it, but the taste leans more toward syrup than smoke. Slight hint of ham and bacon in the finish. Average mouthfeel. Not as bad as I thought it would be, however.

The body pours with a dark gold and is topped with a large, foamy off white head. The aroma is lightly smoked apples with some burnt pancakes. The taste is burnt almonds with some strange butter (diacetyl?) in the finish. There is also a hint of oak and apple core. As usual, Saranac went halfway with this and it shows.

(bottle - 12 oz) Decent copper color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is very malty with some sweetness and vegetable smells to it, and the lightest touch of smoked malts. Flavor is sweet and malty all through it. Smooth and sweet malts in the middle of the flavor as well as a malty yet slightly bitter finish. No smoke to speak of.
