Aroma is dry and malty with a very dry and slightly bitter note from the rye. Flavor is bready and dry at the start with a bitter and lightly sour hop middle. Finishes dry and tart. beastiefan2k (1603), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Mix 12 pack of summer beers, consumed in the fall, no biggie its Saranac. Apparently, Saranac has stopped date coding their bottles. There is a string of numbers near the bottom of the bottle but no date I can extrapolate from it since there isn’t even an "09" to represent the year. Anyway, it pours with a small head and a completely clear dark straw, almost golden color. Aroma starts of that blank, metallic, generic lagering that is common for Saranac and other brewers not trying too hard. But as it warms a nice spicy biscuit malt pops out. I don’t know, it may the rye. Its a bit too light and the other boring aspects of the beer are too much. Fortunately, the flavor is richer with that slightly sweet, spicy, strong biscuit
aspect. There is a lightly mineral finish that works well with the beer. Slightly fizzy at the end with a clean finish.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 30, 2009 12oz bottle. A clear gold with a medium sized, creamy white head. aroma of honey and pale malts. the rye adds a nice crispness to the beer...even a bit salty or baking soda-ish. a refreshing twist on a pils. nice use of the bittering hops. nothing but positive remarks here. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 20, 2009 Pours a slightly hazy dark orange with a small, off-white head. Metallic nose, stinks like copper pennies. Fruity flavor, some nectarine and subtle pine. Rye notes are noticeable in the later stages of the flavor profile, but not overly so. Finish is grainy, though I don’t think I’d pinpoint it as rye, with a little metal, black pepper and light caramel. Moderately watery palate with medium carbonation. Rather forgettable. bsm80 (144), Massapequa, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 19, 2009 another winner from the 12 beers of summer variety; light and refreshing, pale malt very slight bitter, citrus maybe lemon? KyotoLefty (1424), Kyoto, Japan
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 28, 2009 Bottle. Spicy, fruity aroma; somewhat creamy. Interesting. Somewhat spicy flavor with rye and cardboard. Rather thin malts are unexciting compared to the aroma. Decent bitter finish. Nice idea and the rye is helpful, but the base is not so great.
