(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with shadey, thanks Shane!) This is about what I expected from a Saranac beer. It’s pleasant enough, not offensive at all, but not anything terribly special either. Nothing wrong with beers like that. Lightly malty nose shows a bit more in the way of hops, but the nose isn’t very aromatic in general. Reasonably flavorful, the gentle roast, modest sweetness, and mild nuttiness are nicely balanced by a moderately bitter hops. Pretty consistent flavor right through to the finish. Light to medium body has good carbonation level, and a nice, clean finish thanks to the bit of hops. Dark amber color isn’t quite dark enough to be classified as light brown. Off-white head barely rises to a quarter inch in height, and that is short lived as it recedes down to a rim. Some spiderweb lacing remains on the glass. Decent stuff, but not much of a winter beer.

Pours a thin brown color almost transparent.Aromas of nuts and hops. This beer had tastes of nuts and warmed ur insides as it went down.this beer would have been better if there was snow on the ground and freezing cold, not 90 and humidity. This was one of the better ones in the sampler pack.

Light brown body. The aroma is iced tea along with some uncooked green beans. The taste is baked beans and some brown sugar. There is also iced tea and toffee. Seems like a good winter warmer. A unique beer that is nice for the style.

Nice dark redish color with a tan foamy head. Hoppy, a little roasty. Not really what I expected. Almost a sweet after taste.

In the bottle. Pours a reddish brown color with an off-white head. Subtle nut aroma with some toasted overtones. Flavor is pretty disappointing compared to some of the other Saranac beers. Medium hop finish, but otherwise, a mild unimpressive drink. Maybe this bottle from the sampler pack was getting a little long in the tooth?

bottle 3/30/05. Very weak beer for any dark lager. Malty aroma and taste but very thin body and flavor. Pours a medium off white head. Nothing special at all. Very avergae, was expecting more from saranac on this one.

Faible carbonisation. Arrière goût d’huile de noisette. (Rating #110)

Dark orange with off-white head with nice lacing. Very good floral hoppy and malty aroma. I also note the nuttiness. Nice flavor and palate though a little thin. Clean finish. Very nice product.
