Deep clear copper coloured body with cola coloured highlights and a thick dense tan head that lasts long. A good start for usually horrible beers. Odd aroma of caramel, beef broth, malt and a little bit of nuts. Light-bodied; Horribly thin maltiness with a bad metallic taste, small amount of caramel and almost no maltiness. The aftertaste lingers with bitterness from metal and a few nuts. Overall, this one is bad-just as expected.l I sampled this twelve ounce bottle pulled from a sampler pack from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 23-December-2004. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Bottle. Clear chestnut color. Off-white head fades fairly quickly and leaves some lacing. Somewhat nutty aroma, hints of spices. Medium to thin bodied. Flavor is clean and malty with a decent hop finish. A decent beer but somehow unexciting. spkldhenlvr24 (459), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA

Sweet, tangy, metallic aroma. Pours a pale coppery color with a big creamy off-white head. Good lacing, tons of carbanation. Some good caramel flavors. Bitter hoppy taste. Good malty finish. Decent beer from Saranac. biznizness (937), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

However, I disagree with him... this was a choice lagger. Nice roasty flavor. I can taste a few nutties in there. Perhaps Pete’s bottle had gone bad somehow. Cowboys with their fires lit often disagree. beaconstreet (811), Washington DC, USA

Pours a beautiful copper with ample head and sturdy lacing. Nutty caramel aroma. As full-bodied, flavorful (malt & caramel with a nice hop bite on the tail-end) and satisfying as anything this brewery produces. I love this beer -- my favorite of all the Saranac offerings. I just wish it was available year ’round! TheBeerGod (3157), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Aroma has some nice nuttiness and sweet malt notes. Light caramel as well. Taste is nutty but has a light toffee note. Some caramel as well. Body is light-medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes with lighter caramel and raw nuts (pecans). Light bitterness. Not bad at all! JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2004 Not a bad brew, although if you asked after drink it where it was a lager or an ale, I would reply ale confidently, I guess that shows you what I know. Brown color, translucent with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is nutty and sweet, it kind of reminds me of a pecan pie. Oily mouth feel. Finish starts somewhat sweet, but in the end hops rule the day.
