| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2004 Not a bad brew, although if you asked after drink it where it was a lager or an ale, I would reply ale confidently, I guess that shows you what I know. Brown color, translucent with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is nutty and sweet, it kind of reminds me of a pecan pie. Oily mouth feel. Finish starts somewhat sweet, but in the end hops rule the day. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 12, 2004 Poured a clear amber with a fizzy white head that left a thin lacing on the glass. Faint hop aroma. Taste has a tiny amount of malt, some nut character, and a weak hop bite. Absolutely nothing distinguishable in the flavor. Watery body. lamas (730), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Bottle. Pours a deep red with a bubbly off-white head. Smell is sweet, malty and nutty. Stale malty caramel taste gives way to a citrusy dry bitter hoppiness. Only slightly on the thin side. TheBeerCollector (548), Woodstock, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 5, 2004 As with most Saranac beers this one looks great in the glass and seems to be preparing you for a tasty treat. However, it lacks that certain quality that sets craft beers apart from their mainstream copycats. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2004 Not really anything as far as aroma goes, came out a nice reddish-amber color with fluffy white head. Full body and lasting flavor without any bitterness...the nuts and malts are evenly blended for a very nice taste. This is what a lager should be (see my review of Victory lager). | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2004 Bottle: Aroma is a light roasted malt with a little chocolate peaking thru. Pours a real dark transparent amber with a decent off-white head that lasts a minute or so. Roasted malt up front with a light nutty and some chocolate peaking thru in the finish, just as it did in the aroma. Real light bitterness in the finish too. Nice brown ale. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Pours dark amber/mahogany with a big off-white fluffy head. Aroma is malty rosted nuts. Nutty flavor front to back. Semi dry finish with a little hop bite. Long aftertaste. Overall pretty nice brew just lacking in a few categories. tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2004 Definitely has a spice to it. Hoppy and nutmegy. A decent beer from Saranac.
