Smells nutty, roasted malts, some hops. Tastes slightly nutty with a nice hoppy zing, nice rich toasted malts. A very nice warming winter ale.

(Thank-you to the older gentleman from the Galeville Grocery in Syracuse.) 12 oz bottle. Pours brown with a small but sticky beige head. There is a hint of caramel/malt in the aroma, but it is mostly citrus/hops. Quite appealing. The malts are more apparent in the taste, with chocolate, roast, and perhaps walnuts all coming through, especially as the beer warms. There is also a very nice bitter finish to this beer. Nicely carbonated, but a little on the thin side. Not too bad. Probably tastes better in February.

Purchased at Gomers of Kansas. Poured a medium brown/red color. Aroma has som molasses and cherries, maybe some caramel. Flavor was what I was actually expecting. Malty, nutty, with some cherries. Not bad!!!

12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a dark orange color. Head was foamy, off white, and reduced over a period of several minutes to a tenacious film that left some lace behind. Aroma was of raisin, molasses, and salted nuts. Minimally sweet with flavors of cherry, dried fruits, nuts, and light caramel. There was a hint of fruity hop flavor and bitterness at the end. Strange, as most of this brewery’s offering tend to be, but not totally unappealing.

This is a rust-colored lager with a dissipating thin white head. The aroma is of caramel malt and... a bit grassy. It is thin and watery-- a light body that’s very clean. The flavor is tight and pretty bitter. The caramel malt is present and it’s a touch sour. Good stuff.

Umber color with just a hint of ruby. Taller head that seems a bit thin and wispy, but is quite stable and leaves some decent lace. Yes, it smells like an amber, with malt, caramel and bit of cloves. Dry malt flavors coupled with a lager crispness. Quite light and bland. Hints of herbal hops in the linger. Not much more than a amber lager.
