Saranac Winter Lager is a clear, amber beer with a fluffy, off white head that has decent retention. It smells slightly sweet, malty and peppery. It’s medium-light bodied and the finish is a little gritty. It has a peppery twang that’s balanced well with a green, botanical bitterness that lasts through the finish. There’s nothing really stand-out here.

Dec 2, 2009 Bottle pours a clear brownish amber with a white head. Aroma is lightl caramel malt, toast, and a bit of metal. Flavor is much the same with some nutty notes coming through.

Nov 29, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a nut brown-amber color with a large tan head. The aroma was tangy, sour lager with a touch of nut, vague fruits and mint. The flavor was tangy, malty and nutty with a faint note of caramel and a light fruity hop presence. The finish was moderate length sour and tangy malts. Medium body. Ok.

Nov 23, 2009 Pours a medium to dark amber with a slightly foamy off white head. Aromas of caramel, wood, light whiskey, light nuts, and some roasted malt. Flavor is of caramel, light roasted malt, toffee, honey, and some light vanilla. Aroma isn’t quite as the same as the flavor. Slightly sweet with some tasty drinkable flavors. A decent but average winter lager.

Nov 23, 2009 This one poured a dark amber color with a white head. Aroma was bready malts, a bit sweet and nothing else. Flavor was very bland, munich malts and not much else, very thin.

Nov 11, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 2649-0834. A dark amber pour with lively carbonation and a thin white head. The aroma has muted malts and hops along with a little touch of frutiness in the scent. The mouthfeel is pretty average. The taste gives off a more caramel malt flavor but it is rather bland. A slightly better hoppy ending. This is fairly easy to drink but has little in the way of character.

Nov 7, 2009 Crisp lagery aroma, with some sweet/sour cherries added. Slightly sharp with that Euro/Bavarian malt.
The appearance is clear red-orange. Decent head retention; leaves a remnant on the tongue.
The flavor is a nice German lager malt base, with the cherries acting as an accent to replace the hops.
The palate is creamy and not bad. More of an ale feel. An average, drinkable lager. Not great, just okay.
