Commercial Description:
Sawyer’s Triple is based upon the traditional "Golden Triple" style of strong ale, hailing from Belgium, and weighs in at 7.6% alc/vol. The brew is deep golden in color with a distinctive spicy, sweet and hoppy nose. Effervescent carbonation leads to a modestly dry malt character with hoppy flavors and alcohol overtones. Sawyer’s Triple was formulated and brewed by Bill Sherwood.

Bottle at the brewery. Pours a nice golden color with a decent white head. Malty aroma with a hint of citrus and fruit. Some spice jumps out in the flavor with a hint of alcohol. Decent hit of hops too. Very nice brew.

Bottle:   Vibrant straw, clear but with some sediment, moderate to small sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Dusty nose, a little mealy and cardboard.   Not bad but seems past its prime.   Yeah, cardboard and mealy type malts on the tongue.   Should have drank this one sooner.   Bready, but in that wet cardboard sort of fashion.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes okay, not as bright as I would have imagined it should have been.   Lingering cardboard.   I waited too long to try this one, but decent otherwise.   Thanks Bob for this freebie from one of my first trades.   Been cherishing this one for a while.   Should have drank this sooner.

Thanks to oldstylecubsfan for this bomber. Pours exceptionally clear golden amber with a small and very short-lived soapy white head. It recedes quickly, leaving no bubbles at all and no lacing. Sweet light fruits mix with sugar in the aroma and a lightly toasted malt backbone with very subtle spicy yeast in the nose. There’s also some orange peel and some light peppers. The taste has an initial citrus hop kick, though it’s very faint before the light fruity esters and Belgian yeast sweetness take over. The finish is definitely spicy though, maybe some coriander and pepper, and the taste is not as sweet as the nose overall - certainly more layers in the taste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low to medium carbonation with a dry spiciness rounding it out on the palate. This is an excellent and very drinkable triple that has plenty of complexity in the taste especially, where the spices do a great job of balancing out the dominant fruity sweetness.

Sampled from 22oz bottle. A nice, good tasting Belgian. Dark golden color pour, with a fluffy head. Aroma sweet malts, sugar, spices (cloves) and a touch of yeast. Flavor is sweet malts, flavor, touches of bitterness, tinge of hops. Smooth, pretty good.

22 oz bomber from Ebay! Nose is slightly sweet candisugar, lots of cloves and corriander, and some yeasty goodness. clear dark gold with a medium, glass lcaing beige cream colored head. Flavor is very clovey spices, contrasting light sweetness and bitterness, white pepperiness, and white breadiness. Finish has a smidgeon of bitterness. Quite enjoyable!

Poured into a tulip glass from a 22oz bomber. Color is beautiful, golden orange hue, with good cloudiness. Almost no lacing, like a string of dental floss rimming the glass. Huge nose, like dried apricots and prunes, and a little nutty. Taste is big time Belgian Triple, spicy, sweet and a little hoppy. My only dissapointment is the finish, there is’nt much of one. Most true Triples tend to linger in the mouth for a while, I havent found this beer to do that. Overall, a very tasty brew from Stone.

In short: A smooth, sweet, flowery and fruity golden ale. Different and highly drinkable.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed (probably fresh) soon after purchase. Tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Golden orange body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Pleasant floral nose of scented garden flowers. Soft juicy body with a soft carbonation. Taste is a pleasant mix of honeyed malts, flower petals (orchids, etc.), tropical fruits and passion fruit juice. The flowery hopping brings no dryness and almost no bitterness so the honey sweetness sticks around in the finish and the beer does feel a little sweet. Quite different from the classic Belgian Abbey Triples, especially the mouthfeel that didn’t felt Belgium at all. But this is a very interesting refreshing golden ale of some kind. It just felt different. A surprising offering coming from Stone and one I’d like to see brewed regularly. Unfortunately they only seem to brew it on rare occasions. I don’t know what the occasion is but it doesn’t happen very often. Maybe they brew it to celebrate the win of a handicapped albinos at the special Olympic wheelchair 1000 meters hurdles. Maybe, I don’t know, something that doesn’t happen often.

Pours a clear, golden, orange color, with a hint of amber. One finger head of frothy white foam that dissipates quickly. Lacing is decent, but minimal. Nice sugarey sweetness greets me first. Followed up with some nice fruitiness and a touch of spices. Slight hints of malts. A very good, mild triple. Nice fruit flavors, accompanied by a touch of floral. Apples, pears and a touch of banana, are mixed with corriander and clove. The spices are balanced by a nice level of sugar sweetness. Nice and creamy smooth feeling, in the mouth. Enough body to interest you, yet not enough to overpower. Perfect level of medium carbonation. If you want a brew that doesn’t ask too much of you, this could be it. Very smooth, light, and easy to drink. Recommended, if you have the opportunity.

Nice to see this one. Really nice and smooth. A little slick and buttery but overall nice flavor. Sweet, faint spice and yeast.
