Bottle, brewed for the Open Day 13 june 2004, gift from the brewer. Named Schans Dubbel. The ABV is the same, so I guess it’s this beer. Very dark brown color, small but persisting creamy head. Chocolate and Mon Chéri cherry bonbon aroma and flavor. Roasted malt. Alcohol. Thinnish probably because of the everpresent alcohol. Chocolate and alcohol aftertaste, almost like Tia Maria. A taste bomb!!

Chocolate syrup aroma, soy sauce too (as said by duff). Chocolate dominates flavour, sweet though balanced. Full smooth feel. Nice.

Pours a foamy light tan head on a hazy dark amber body. Rather heavy sweet malty, fruity and caramelly aroma with tones of prunes. Some alcohol. Flavor is full nutty and chocolaty. Good fruity tone also. Thick, sweet and tasty.

Bottle. Quite yeasty and soy saucy. Chocolate syrup, some caramel, yeasty. Quite sticky. Some bitterness in the finish makes the sweet/sticky characters easier to bare.

Bottle at Beer Circus, Croydon</>. Another seldom seen beer from this well stocked Croydon bar. Very chocolty, sweet, coffee. It almost tasted a little stale but overall was good.

Bottle. Thanks again to Gazza for sharing. I’m starting to realise I owe him a few drinks! This had an oxidized caramel aroma with hints of leather and was by far the best part of the experience, certainly quite interesting if not exactly pleasant. Mousse mouthfeel, which is often the problem with bottle conditioned beers - they need time to settle in the same way that a cask needs to settle after being tapped. Anyway, when it had settled a bit the alcohol could be felt. Perhaps this was too young to be drunk right now. It’s certainly a rough brew with the flavours not quite making themselves known other than for a general caramel experience. Given more time this beer might be rather good.
