ToddA (8), California, USA does not count Aug 5, 2008 Some mild roast flavors in this German Dunkel. Poured from bottle into ceramic krug so I had to pour into glass to take a look. Nice clarity, dark brown and small white foam head.
Enjoyed at the pub in Beilngries with a palte of Bratwurst and kartoffelsalat.
Very nice place on the tourist path...a very touristy town though small... MiP (5011), Flensburg, Germany May 2, 2008 Bottle, 5.1%. Good spicy aroma. Clear brown colour. Very small white head. Mellow mouthfeel. pivnizub (3811), Porúří, Germany Sep 10, 2007 Bottle (bought at the brewery): Chestnut-amber coloured, smaller foamy layer, clear; sweet dark-malty nose with a distinctive touch of toasted malt, almost hints of smoke....and mild oaky hops in the background; moderate sweet, also bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; sweet-malty, nutty finish with a soft, but distinctive touch of hops in the aftertaste. Sweet toast-malty, slightly nutty aroma with caramel and cacao powder. Moderately sweet flavour, toasted malty taste with caramel and notes of cacao and liquorice; medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation. Sweet, malt-accented toasty finish with a moderate burnt and slightly hoppy bitterness. Decent.
