thijs van vlijmen (256), Utrech, Netherlands Oct 24, 2004 I was very content with the wildebock as a good drinking beer. Nice and fruity sweet taste caesar (2498), Zeist, Netherlands Jun 19, 2003 Updated: Oct 10, 2003Rerate Drank from tap: Very complex bock, which is very fruity and malty, and the sticky rye i was tasting last time, was not dominant at all. Indeed not really a bock, but more like a double. Original rate 2.9 Extremely dark brown, very cloudy. Short lasting frothy head. Aroma of rye (definitely) and roasted malts, toasted bread. Flavor is quite complex, roasted malts, caramelly sweet. Not my kind of beer. ALLOVATE (1108), Perth, Australia May 5, 2007 A surprisingly good beer from this dynamic little gem of a brewer. All manner of mystery lies behind these strange labels, this one was a treat! My bottle now a year old, it had traces of undue age evident. Into a chalice at just on cool, it gets top marks for appearance. Big cappuccino thick, whipped cream head stood proud a good two inches in height. Retention is excellent and the lacing worthy of praise alone. It’s body a deep, dark brown and opaque with lots of fine sediment in orbit soon to flatten out on the base of the glass. Bright and quite pungent aroma of ripe, juicy plums, roasted coffee beans and a tickle of alcohol spice. Underneath a soft hint of sherry and corroded tin could not be ignored. More prominent oxidation in the mouth, though seemingly instep with deep, roasted coffee and bitter/sweet chocolate notes. Fruit shows, ripe plums, some deeper notes of raisins, blends in nicely. It becomes woody, a sweetness of darkest fudge upfront, a little sherry for warmth in back with a nice roasted grain bitterness peaking on the swallow. Body is medium, has a good mouthfeel too it, quite smooth with big flavours that are enhanced by biting peppery spices making it quite quaffable. Finish is long, with mocha latté notes lingering long in the mouth. The alcohol is present, which is odd as this isn’t a ’Strong’ beer per sé. Comes together nicely as it empties, so smooth, rich but not overpowering, balanced to a ’T’. I like it!!! (33cL, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville, tasted October 2006) Borresteijn (542), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 7, 2008 Bottle @ De Geuzen. Dark red/brown beer, beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, spices (cloves), lots of chocolate, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, chocolate, roasted malts, spices, dark fruits, nice bitter finish. A really tasteful bock. An upgraded version of their Dulle Griet dubbel. jbrus (4127), Delft, Netherlands Jun 3, 2002 Caramel, light roasted aroma. Dark brown, light brown frothy head, nice lace.
