Pours a deep ruby color with a big fluffy head. The aroma is coffee and chocolate with some lightly floral hops. The flavor is lots of caramel and chocolate. I just noticed that the description said a "low hop bitterness" I think they’re short selling this one, there was certainly more of what I would call a moderate hop bitterness with this one and it balanced out the flavor perfectly. Now if I could only figure out what the heck they mean by Vacuum Tonic?

Nov 28, 2009 Tap at Mac’s. Deep, dark brown color, big pillowy head. Roasted malt aroma, sweet caramel flavor with a smooth creamy finish.

Nov 25, 2009 Tap at the Happy Gnome. Dark red color with no head. Fairly undiscernable aroma, but leaning towards malt. Interesing flavors... some sweet malt and toasty, biscuity notes. Caramel and light coffee. Overall, I’m not too sure what to think of it.

Oct 28, 2009 Last of the 150th Anniversary Series. On draught at the Happy Gnome in St Paul, MN, pours a semi-clear very dark copper brown colored brew with a thick and lumpy off-white head that sticks around. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, a hint of maple syrup, chocolate, caramel, a touch of apple and some floral hops. Taste is medium to full bodied, a tad sweet, with flavors of milk chocolate, maple syrup, a hint of hazelnuts, caramel and a touch of burgundy wine and rib eye steak. Finish is semi-sweet, malty aftertaste with some sweet apple/maple secondary flavor. Why do I have a craving for beef stroganoff all of the sudden? Hardly no dryness according to the beer profile but it is a tad sweeter than the 1878 Doppelbock that started the series. Well done as a sign off signature to end the 150th anniversary series.
