Pours a nice amber color with a pretty small white head. Aroma is full of malt, caramel, nuts and some oxidized metallic smell. Flavor is somewhat metallic with caramel, light hops and some nice nutty flavors. Metallic flavors and aroma stop this from being a pretty damn good beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2009 Dark red, brownish color with a very thin head. Aroma of sweet malt and toffee. Strong, very strong, fresh grain taste. It’s like jumping into a combine after the harvest. Some toasted malt and caramel as well. Distinct yet light floral hop finish. Really quite good. Schells was always a decent brewery, but they have gotten a lot better recently. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Smell is slightly sweet, maple like malt. Taste is some dark nutty malt with some toasty caramel and balancing hops without much bitterness. Medium to thin body and normal carbonation. Solid, beer and a style that I’m not too familiar with. blizzardlover (43), Minnesota, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 14, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of Buebie poured into a pint glass.
Pours a deep clear copper with a one inch off-white head that recedes to a ring and leaves no lacing.
The aroma is mainly roasted caramel malts but with some dark fruits, especially raisins. There is a hint of hops in the nose as well.
The taste has an initial sweetness of caramel malts with some toasted grains in the background. Some earthy hops are present though very subtle.
The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with lots of carbonation and very smooth going down.
This is a great bock with great complexity but still extremely drinkable. I really enjoyed this one. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 14, 2009 Pours amber brown with an off white head that dissipates fast. Aroma is sweet and malty as expected from a d bock. Caramel with a light undertone of hops. Some roast in the aroma as well. Medium body with light carbonation. Hops come through in the finish with a slight bitterness which offsets the sweet malt profile nicely. Very drinkable, sessionable at that. I enjoy the nice hop bite on the finish. Good. aetheon (60), Beer Dungeon, Minnesota, USA
