Trouble is (besides the head disappearing so rapidly), it’s so watery that it detracts from both aroma and flavor. There’s a sweet caramel nose and mouth in here, but it’s so tremendously diluted that it fails to leave much of an impression. Disappointing.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2006 Pours a deep amber with a minimal head. Has a nice sweet maltish aroma. Taste is of mild malts. Seems like it got a little hoppier towards the end. Probably not a true bock but was still pretty good. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Light brown color. Lots of caramel in the nose. Fairly light on the tongue. Flavors of caramel and corn? come through prominantly. Not much more than a typical bock beer here, not that there is much that can be done in the style. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 27, 2006 Pours a clear dark bronze copper with a large, frothy, thin-lacing tannish head. Aroma of lightly toasty caramel malts and a touch of German hops and lager yeast. Body starts with a mild light sweetness, some bittering noble hops and an authentic bittersweet finish. A decent bock but might be a tad too bitter for the style. Ughsmash (4027), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 22, 2006 Bottled. Poured a clear garnet/amber with a medium cap of off-white head. The nose was full of artificial sweetener and caramel... maybe a little toffee and floral, but not much. The flavor was sweet, too.. some caramel, some toffee, but very artificial feeling. Light-bodied and slicker on the palate with a tacky finish. Not very good. Lubiere (4528), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 20, 2006 Clear reddish brown in colour, with a moka quickly dissipating head. Sweet caramel with hints of oxidation, and fruits, like prunes or plums. In mouth, a sweet malt with nutty notes, no hops, a bit harsh in aftertaste. Rather light bodied. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jul 15, 2006 12oz bottle: I am not detecting this as a bock... perhaps a weak brown ale.. but it just doesn’t taste like a bock. I will pass on this if I see it again, I recommend trying some of Schell’s other better beers instead. uglyblond1 (174), Nebraska, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Jun 15, 2006 Aroma alerts that there are not enough hops. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, did I mention sweet! A little rough on the finish as has an off aftertaste. If you like sweet underhopped beers.
