Commercial Description:
Since 1860, Schell’s Bock meant spring was around the corner. And until recently, tradition and climate dictated the seasonality of Bock beers. Today, with the ability to control strict brewing environments, we’re able to usher in a new tradition—August Schell Caramel Bock, available year-round.
This medium-bodied, dark copper beer sports a light caramel flavor with a hint of malt sweetness. We figured beer drinkers aren’t seasonal, so why should beer be?

Thanks to S.A. for picking this up for me... Appears a dark, transparent mahogany color with a small beige head. Scattered lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of carapils and two-row malt...nothing too exciting going on here. I was waiting for a vaporous sugary, vanilla caramel to overtake my nostrils but alas, my hopes were unfulfilled. Taste is of the same mild aromas with the caramel malts and cream. Very Ho-hum. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy but also thin and watery. Overall, a let down. Give me some rich, over the top caramel, will ya? And while you’re at it, if you’re going to call yourself a bock, grow a set and pack a potent punch.

Pours a brownish almost root beer colored. Sweet caramel/malt aromas. Smooth malty flavor with a touch of caramel sweetness on the finish.

Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of fruit, nuts and caramel malts. Flavor is quite thin with the caramel malts dominating the subtle fruit and nut flavor.

This greets the nose with the sweet smell of dates. It is a burnt bronze solution that produces a thin head. This beer is thin and overly carbonated. It tastes of prunes and allows a hint of chocolate to be detected on future drinks.

Amber with a frothy tan head. Aroma is malty, a little roasted, and caramel. All the aromas are fairly subtle. Flavor is nutty with sweet malt, some caramel. Light and smooth drinking. Not spectacular, but one could do worse.

Had a light gingery caramel aroma, like a cookie, mildly sweet with a decent malt presence. LIght neutral fruit and mild hoppiness. Medium brown clear liquid, with a thin off-white head atop. Medium-light watery body with medium to heavy carbonation and a light carbonic burn. Starts with good amount of sweetness to it. A delicate caramel flavor is present, but is quickly subdued by more acidic carbonic character. Mild fruity notes and the finish has a little tartness to it. Not much in the way of hop bitterness anywhere. Finish is mild sweet, a little dry and with some nuttiness. Decent, but not overwhelming.
