Commercial Description:
Since 1860, Schell’s Bock meant spring was around the corner. And until recently, tradition and climate dictated the seasonality of Bock beers. Today, with the ability to control strict brewing environments, we’re able to usher in a new tradition—August Schell Caramel Bock, available year-round.
This medium-bodied, dark copper beer sports a light caramel flavor with a hint of malt sweetness. We figured beer drinkers aren’t seasonal, so why should beer be?

Sampled at Brew Ha Ha 2005. Red-orange with a big white head. Light caramel aroma and flavor with some light malted milk ball and cinnamon. I felt this was too carbonated which made distinguishing some flavors difficult.

Bottle. Clear dark brown body, thin light head. Dark, tart-roasty bock aroma. The flavor is less assertive however, featuring musky, roasty butter malts.

Sampled from a bottle, this beer has an aroma that is dunkelweizen-like. Wheat, banana, bock malts, caramel. It pours to a dark brown body with a tan head. The flavor is a light tart grain, sweet caramel, medium toasted malts. The palate is medium bodied and fills out this beer.

musty yeast aroma and strong caramel. Pours a nice reddish copper, nice white head. Sweetish caramel middle. Medium body. A little thin on the finish with a slight sourness. Not too bad.

Dark caramel in colour with slightly below average carbonation. Interesting aromas of strong malt, toffee, and cinnamon. The flavors don’t quite live up to the aromatic billing, with some fairly bland yet sweet malty notes along with some minor bread and roasted malt tastes. I think it needs some more nutty flavors and a little less sweetness. Average.

Deep caramel auburn, tannish head. Faint nose, some caramel malts, mild peatiness. Flavor is unimpressive, caramel sweetness is a mite cloying, sugariness takes over. Some bready malts. Finishes astringent.

A nice enough looking beer, light golden red-brown with a pleasing white head. Nose is malty and toasted. Flavor is truly caramel and biscuit malts. Some off flavors of plastic or diacetyl. Fairly well balanced, the dryness counteracts the sweet malts very well.
