Commercial Description:
Since 1860, Schell’s Bock meant spring was around the corner. And until recently, tradition and climate dictated the seasonality of Bock beers. Today, with the ability to control strict brewing environments, we’re able to usher in a new tradition—August Schell Caramel Bock, available year-round.
This medium-bodied, dark copper beer sports a light caramel flavor with a hint of malt sweetness. We figured beer drinkers aren’t seasonal, so why should beer be?

The pour is coppery red with a think tan head and very little lacing. I was hoping for more with this... It comes off a little too watery, both in consistancy and taste. While not terrible, it really seems to be lacking something compared to other Bocks I’ve had.

Gitchee Gumee Brewfest 2005. Aromas of walnuts and pralines. A very bubbly carbonated flavor, like mineral water, with some good champagne notes in the background. A good bock sweetness in the finish.

Sweet and caramely. Light hops with a dry finish. Has little spice at the end but nothing else. Flavor is very weak in this one.

An above avergae beer. This beer is actually drinkable. You do not have to cringe to take a sip.

Color is dark orange. Head starts out ok but ends up looking like sea foam on Lake Erie. Aroma is extremely malty, not much caramel. Flavor does hold a high level of caramel though; mixing with the malts leads to a strong element of fruit flavored bubble gum. The finish is more malt than caramel and also contains a good level of hop bitterness. Rather watery on the palate but overall it’s a good beer.

Pours weak and thin, but makes up for it with a smooth drinkability. Aroma is slightly spicy, but not pronounced enough to have much of an effect. The caramel makes itself known initially, then backs off so the malt can take over. Finishes with a light tinge hops. A very approachable style, despite the "caramel bock" tag (most swill drinkers would probably believe this to be a "heavy" beer.) Nice brew; would love another one. Thanks robertsreality!

tulip / mmm, caramel dipped gym aroma. (is that possible?) active dark copper body with burnt orange highlight. big, loud, bone white head that almost fully diminishes, and as an airy mess. the flavor is not that good. a touch of caramel, water, yeaup. hmm. oh, hum. and when i take a gulp that sense of gym comes into my mouth and nose, grr. however, there is a good, soft, sweet aftertaste! perhaps it’s only the aroma that kills this...
