Commercial Description:
Since 1860, Schell’s Bock meant spring was around the corner. And until recently, tradition and climate dictated the seasonality of Bock beers. Today, with the ability to control strict brewing environments, we’re able to usher in a new tradition—August Schell Caramel Bock, available year-round.
This medium-bodied, dark copper beer sports a light caramel flavor with a hint of malt sweetness. We figured beer drinkers aren’t seasonal, so why should beer be?

Bottle. Part of a Schell sampler. Of the 6 different beers, this was my favorite of the bunch. Brown-red color on the pour. Nice head. Taste is caramel malt, as expected. Body and taste were nice and full. I have had better bocks for sure, but this was one I could enjoy again.

Deep brown/ruby body, with a beige head. Too bad the head didn’t last a while longer, though. Faint caramel aroma. Somewhat light palate, with caramel, malts, and nuts in the profile. Nothing too exciting, but I’ll probably finish the bottle.

Roasted caramel aroma and taste with a little nuttyness in the finish. The flavors seem subdued.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a ruby chestnut color with a large tan head. The aroma was light sour and tangy malts with a hint of caramel. The flavor is light caramel, tangy malts and finishes up with vague bitterness and a hint of caramel. A bit too thin and too bland. This beer has promise but fails to deliver.

Aroma is caramel, yeast, somewhat fruity, malts, slightly hoppy, and grains. Appearance is an brownish/amber color with a large sized off white head that sticks around for a while. Flavor is nice big caramel malts taste, with some definate hop characteristics definitly a very nice sipper. Palate is bitter with the caramel seeping into it just a little. Overall, It’s very nice and I would drink it again. Nice August Schell!

Pours a three finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Deep amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Caramel nose. Starts with a sweet caramel flavor that is balanced with hops. $1.29 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, Ia.

12 oz bottle. Clear brown color, orange around the edges. Head was off white and thin. No lace was left behind. Aroma is brown sugar and plum. Malty toffee and subdued caramel flavor. Eh.

12oz. bottle. Aroma does indeed show some caramel and brown sugar character, also some very light fruity accents and faint dark breadiness. Clear medium brown in color with a subsiding, fine head. Flavor is likewise malt-oriented, with a light roastiness blending into the caramel tones and a lightly bitter, spicy, and again gently fruity finish. Mouthfeel is fairly effervescent and lightly coating, body is medium. Certainly more to it than, say, Shiner.
