Commercial Description:
The Doppel Bock style of beer ranges from the round to the profound to the enveloping. In describing Bock beer, the term "single" Bock is never used. Just Bock. Nor is a Double Bock twice as strong. "Double" Bock is a very unGerman exaggeration. "Super Bock" might be a bit more accurate. Clearly, when this style was first developed, the idea was to exceed what had previously been the strongest type of beer.
This was finally achieved by the monks of St. Francis of Paula, who probably first made beer as "liquid bread" to be consumed at the time of Lent.
Ingredients: Pale 2 Row, Munich, Caramel, Cara Pilsner and Black malts, domestic Mt. Hood, Cascade and Centennial hops.
Available January through March.

Decent light reddish brown color and light tan head, along with a big powerful malty/spicy aroma start this brew. Flavor is also very pronounced, with a strong, very far back on the tongue aftertaste. Nice doppel!

Medium copper color and a thin head. Sweet caramel malty aroma. Metallic off-flavors are present as well as an unbalanced body and a sticky sweet finish. I love doppelbocks, but this wasn't up to par.

This is my first experiance with a doppelbock soo i dont have much to compare it with. As a beer its not bad but nothing spectacular. The flavours aremt very aparent and tastes like a bunch of malt.

Quite average of the style---but weak carbonation. The "long finish" described in description from brewer is spot-on though. Needs more malting for my taste. Being an inexpensive beer can be used for an excuse---this time.

Weak head, poor lace. Color is a nice dark amber. Kind of a skunky hoppy flavor to it. Malt is not really noticable and it is not sweet. High alcohol is not noticed until you've had one or two. Quite a kick! Aftertaste is not what I'm looking for and makes this hard to handle after a couple. But by that time you've had enough of the alcohold to deaden the senses.

(bottle) Pours a reddish-brown with a creamy head. Crystal clear. Immediate & long-lasting sweet malty taste with a slight amount of hopping that kicks in after a second or two. This is probably the easiest doppelbock to put away quickly that I've ever experienced. No clue that the alcohol content is so high until it's too late--very well masked. POW! Who just hit me between the eyes with a mallet? This holds its own with almost any of the more expensive doppelbocks, imported or domestic...

Amber color. Virtually no head on the pour. Has a malty aroma. Alittle bit to thin and watery for this style. Had a pretty good caramel malt and toffee taste. I couldnt taste the high alcohol in this.
