Commercial Description:
Schell’s Hefeweizen is made with 60% wheat malts and 40% barley malt. We use an authentic wheat beer yeast culture, which gives the beer a fruity ale character dominated by a citrus-like tartness. A slice of lemon is traditionally served with this type of wheat beer.
Ingredients: 60% Wheat and 40% Pale malts, domestic Cascade, and Mt. Hood hops.

12 ounce bottle. Weizen glass. Cloudy, pale yellow with a thin head. Aroma was citrus and yeast. Taste was tangy and crisp with notes of citrus and wheat.

I’ve waited a while to taste this, ever since I was introduced to Schell, I have enjoyed their beers. Gunk on bottom of bottle, lots. Beautiful swirling unfiltered wheat beer pour. Nice wheat beer aroma, very attractive. Very light pale yellow orange haze and a small surrounding thin white girdle for a head. Fun and nice immediate palate, bubbly fresh and hefey! Spicy and delicious, spices do not overwhelm. Very good hefe experience. There is a developing attempt to be bitter, but the manners of this brew never lets it get there. No bitter aftertaste on the finish. Just what I expect from schell, quality beer. Not disappointed. Much better than troeg’s dream weaver. Almost as good as Erdinger Weissbier (Hefe-Weizen)!

Cloudy straw color, briefly maintains 1/2" of white head, then just a bubbly ring. No real lacing. Prominent sweet banana in the aroma - even from a distance. A hint of clove when you look for it. Tangy wheat, with a little sweet-tart lemon pie filling flavor. Not quite medium body, very mild (lacking) carbonation. Citrus tang in the aftertaste.

Tried again recently, gave about the same rating. One of Schell’s best efforts. Poured with a fairly hazy light yellow body and a thin white head. The aroma has a little bit of bananas and clove. There is even a hint of mango. The taste is sweet with banana and a little bit of citrus. A very mild orange taste in the finish. There is a hint of the clove spice. This is interesting, like a good cross between a German style Hefe Weizen and an American wheat.

If Schell’s could get a real good brewmeister behind them that, has a real talent for brewing things of this style, and with there brewing capacity they would make a ton of $ Cloudy straw color, wheat and citrus aroma with some hints of light spice.bannana flavor, wheaty and mild spice,a little yeasty but not enough to really make this good or bad.Could be better.

The 2004 batch of Schell’s Hefeweizen was extraordinary. The fruity character was bolstered by a banana-like taste which really puts this one on top. No bitter aftertaste like a lot of Hefe’s. I’d take this one over any of the big European Hefe’s any day.
