Commercial Description:
Schell’s Hefeweizen is made with 60% wheat malts and 40% barley malt. We use an authentic wheat beer yeast culture, which gives the beer a fruity ale character dominated by a citrus-like tartness. A slice of lemon is traditionally served with this type of wheat beer.
Ingredients: 60% Wheat and 40% Pale malts, domestic Cascade, and Mt. Hood hops.

The 2004 batch of Schell’s Hefeweizen was extraordinary. The fruity character was bolstered by a banana-like taste which really puts this one on top. No bitter aftertaste like a lot of Hefe’s. I’d take this one over any of the big European Hefe’s any day.

This is a very decent weizen! Champagne like on the pour. Just wish it had more clove and banana on the aftertaste.

yep, found it after i failed to remember to look for it the last few weeks. Grabbed a sixer. Somehow I had never tired this ( hard to find i guess. Very fruity/banana aroma in this one. Color is cloudy light yellow/oragne. I’m a big fan of this. Seems to have more pronounced flavor than most i’ve had and NOT overcarbonated at all. Very very tasty hefe!

Poured from bottle into water glass at work. Pale cloudy yellow. Looks orange when held away from the light. A relatively aggressive pour plus the high carbonation produces a fast forming foamy head but subsides faster than I would like without much lacing. Smell of bananas, bananas, bananas. Also some cloves and light hops. Despite the smell, the cloves are stronger than the banana taste. Mild wheat maltiness, with maybe a hint of hops at the end (unless that is just more clove). Pretty high carbonation, fairly light but slightly creamy. Easy to quaff Hefe. Very, very refreshing, and one of the best American made Hefeweizens, as it is truly German in style.

Finally found a sixer of this, fairly hard to come by in the Twin Cities it seems! Nice, slight banana aroma, followed by some spice and coriander? Not overally sweet, with a slightly fruity finish. Very smooth, easy on the pallte summer brew. One of the best Hefe’s I have ever had.

On draft in New Prague, Minnesota. Came a bright yellow cloudy haze and tasted quite clovey and very refreshing. Very good.

Golden in color, slightly cloudy. Fresh aroma with a yeast element and a hint of lemon. Clean and very smooth mouthfeel. Tangy flavor, citrus notes. Very good beer.

A great brew and very underrated on this site. Hazy yellow color with a slight clove aroma and a slight touch of bannana to the wheat maltiness. Fantastic beer.
