| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Bottle - nose was slightly yeasty with a touch of hot malt burn. Near copper in color and poured with a large white head. I’m having a hard time pinpointing the flavor. Some spicy hops and some malt. Not a huge fan of this one. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 13, 2006 I like a good doppelbock every now and then. Alas, this wasn’t one. Copper-colored with a middling beige head. Aroma was herbal, apple, caramel, malt. Not much substance to it in the mouth and the flavor was of watered down doppelbock. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 10, 2006 Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. Aroma has sweet maltiness and a bit of musty caramel. The taste is almost a sour butterscotch with a sour finish. The beer has a light/medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Not offensive, but overall a boring beer. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2006 bottle-clear bright orange with an eggshell topping. lots if fizzy carbonation with alot of carbonation around the rim of the glass. honey, sugary malts, fussel grains of paradise (its not a bad thing actually) with quite a bit of sweet cara pils malt notes here. lots of pale, munich and rye presence in the flavors with some nice grassy undertones. quite pleasant for the style and another winner from a brewery i just about gave up on. nice yeast note-funky and very german feeling. very nice work Schell! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 1, 2006 Clear golden pour, frothy white head. Sweet aroma with hints of caramel and toffee. Nice flavor, sweet maltiness balanced with a hint of hop biterness. An interesting beer: has definite doppelbock characteristics, but with the clean crispness of a lighter lager. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2006 Transparent and golden amber in color with a booming, dense, frothy, off-white and fluffy head. Alluring aroma rolls out sweet caramel, copper, vanilla, pepper, anise, hazelnut extract and Easter nougats. Golden sweet corn flavor meets liquefied kettle corn. Caramel and vanilla provide a prolific sweetness. Melted light toffee. Somewhat of an oily and watery feel - and the two remain separated as science would dictate. Tantalizing spiciness and a prickly wax paper setting. Honed carbonation and spicy hops, finishing with anise that’s been shaken over sweet corn chex, along with a spiced, peppered vanilla nougat. Standard, solid rendition of a blonde doppelbock.
