Bottle. Sweet, fruity aroma with scents of grapes, oranges, and cinnamon. A metallic odor also is present. Pours a clear, orange / dark gold with a small amount of beige head. The unfortunate metallic hint shows up in the flavor as well. Somewhat similar in taste to a hefeweizen, surprisingly. The flavor also includes oranges and has a slight citric sourness. All of these flavors are weak. The primary flavor in fact is that of a typical American macro pale lager. The beer has a cloying sweetness and produces a bit of an astringent aftertaste. It is medium-bodied and dull in the palate. Save for the metallic notes, this is not an offensive beer, but there is nothing to recommend it. Note that I tasted this maibock out of season and presumably about nine months after its production, since which time it had been cellared at a local liquor store, so it may not be the best sample. Nonetheless, based on the bottle I tried, this is a disappointing beer from a generally relatively strong brewery.

Pour is golden / copper, not too much head. Aroma is bright hop, with some sweetness. Taste of malt and caramel. Finish is a touch sour, after taste is a touch boozy. Nothing special.

Pours a light orange copper with a medium white head. Aroma is caramel with floral hops. A little watery on the palate. Light flavor, begins a little sweet and ends a little sour.

12oz. bottle. Fairly slight aroma of sweet, pale maltiness and fruit, notably pear and apple, along with lighter amounts of floral, citric and green, grassy hop. Medium golden color with an amber cast and a subsiding, fine white head. Flavor features a blend of sweet, honey-tinged maltiness, lightly tangy, tart fruitiness (notes of pineapple in particular) and a certain earthy, tinny, spicy bitterness towards the finish, the alcohol vaguely evident here as well. Body is medium, the palate flat and wet. A bit oddly blended.

In my 26 oz crystal clear plastic cup. A little lighter than a ’dark’ beer. Did not taste like 7%, much smoother. Just a little more bitter than I expected for a doppel. Also, I was very happy with my variety case from Schell; pale ale, octoberfest, pilsner, caramel boch, firebrick, maifest, doppelbock, zommerfest, etc. Wow what a variety…..loved it. Schell has some of the best looking labels, too!

Slightly hazy orange amber color. Nice foamy off white head. Aroma is apples, sweet malt and yeast. Flavor is apples, yeast, caramel and a light alcohol bitterness that carries through to the finish. Slippery on the palate and a bit on the low end of medium bodied.

12oz bottle. Poured a deep and hazy golden color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of fruits, yeast, and toasted malts. Tastes of apples, caramel, and toasted malts. Creamy yet thin body. Light alcohol in the finish.
