Bottle. Very dark brown with a reddish hue. Decent creamy tan head with persistent ring of lace. Fruity malt aroma with some roasty toasties to it. Fruity malt flavors with a "chewing on espresso beans" roasted bite coming in. Some dark chocolate and cherry cough syrup thrown in there. Flavors change often while drinking this one, and become a little more pronounced as it warms up a bit. Interesting and tasty. Not really a traditional Altbier, but good whatever it is.

Deep dark amber brown with a thick latte colored head. Malty chocolate nose with roasted notes and sweet cherry aromas. Med weight with some sweetness that continues onto the tongue. Great roasted malt flavor with a rich tootsie roll/chocolate quality. Very satisfying flavor that lingers and makes you go back for more. I remember drinking this in college back 7 years ago or so and loving it, for the first time a memory is not as faded as I had thought!

Pouring a dark mahagony color with a quickly vanishing brown head, this has a mildy smoky aroma mixed with burnt chocolate. Not a bad roasted flavor, the chocolate coming through on the finish. It’s a little gravelly on the throat. Not too bad... but that’s not a great endorsement.

Deep dark brown color. Smells fruitty and smokey at the same time. You can taste a lot of dark fruit initially, which is followed by a roasted smokiness. The flavors don’t really go well together until the end of the glass.

Thanks to Drnk_Mcdermott for this one. Pours burnt sienna with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, dark fruit, caramel, cabernet, hops, and slight puke (which makes sense, because puke and dark chocolate both contain butyric acid, and this one had a big dark chocolate taste...I thought it was a schwarzbier before I logged on). Tastes malty, with black licorice, caramel, nuts, some hops, and raw cocoa flavor. Medium palate, with a smooth finish. As it warmed, I got a cherry touch from it. Nice style.

Pours a very dark brown color with a quickly evaporating head. Heavy malt aroma that does not disappoint in the taste. Very thick mouthfeel with loads of barley and chocolate. It tasted more like a light barley wine than any alts I’ve had. Quite nice!

Brown Coloring. Small Head. Barley On The Nose. Really Enjoyed This Style. Barley is Evident on the Tongue, but Not Overpowering. Great Offering From Schell!

12 oz. bottle: This one pours a very dark brown color. Some light manages to pass through it. There was very liottle head on my example. What was there was tan and died out quickly. The aroma is mainly that of chocolate. Some sweetness coming through also. The taste is a bit roasty, with a subdued sweetness. A hint of fruits in the tsate also. I’m sure that ther are hops in there, but they are overpowered by everything else. Decent.
