Commercial Description:
August Schell Snow Storm is a limited edition beer produced each year for the Holiday Season. Snow Storm was created in 1994 as a way for our brewmaster to be creative in brewing different styles of beers. Each year brings a different beer, ranging from fruit flavored lagers to rich dark alts. The 2006 August Schell Snow Storm is a style rarely seen in the U.S., a London-style sweet stout. If you love coffee and chocolate, you’ll love our sweet stout. We used only the finest malts imported from Great Britain. Sure, it might cost a little more, but we’re certain you’ll agree it’s worth it.

Bottle- Schell’s Stout. Pour is black with a thin brown head. Aroma is milk chocolate, cinnamon, roasted malt and a faint hop backdrop. Solid flavor with a nice smooth roasty finish. A surprise, and very good.

Black pour with robust tan head. Nose is darkly roasted barley malt and chocolate. Flavors of roasted barley, chocolate, coffee, earthy hop bitterness, cream. I drank one bottle and used the other one for making a robust beer bread (using spent grain, too) and the bread was really good. Surprised by this one.

Schell Stout. Poured an almost black color with a small tan head that faded fairly quickly. Smelled of roasted coffee. Chocolate/coffee taste. Overall my favorite schell product.

Pours black medium head that vanishes fast. Good roasted malt taste, caramel and sweet with a burnt coffee aftertaste.

Black stout with a long-lasting tan head. The aroma is caramel, light chocolate, and coffee. The taste is initially sweet, but it finishes with a burnt taste and sticky texture.

Sold under the current Schell’s Stout label. Pours a very dark brown/black color with a fantastic dense creamy tan head that slowly fades away. Aroma is mildly sweet with some modest chocolate notes, caramel, light coffee and an overall sweet toasted malt ending. Flavor has a stronger chocolate, coffee moves in to provide a bitter slightly burnt note to the brew, a sweet molasses notes comes in to add sweetness with a slightly acidic burnt ending. Density is mod/heavy with the perfect, modest amount of carbonation that allows for the head to stick around and leave good lacing on the glass. A really good brew by Schell. The density is heavy enough where the bitter, burnt notes feel rough while the sweetness compliments the bitter with only a slightly stronger presence making the flavors meld very well. I will definitely have to look for a 6-pack or 12-pack of this brew.

A blackish cloudy look. The brown head disappears very fast and fades completely. Carbonation can be seen constantly rising through the midnight color. Unmistakable chocolate and coffee aroma with a chicory characteristic. A hop aroma balances the big malt blast that is sniffed in the beginning. The first few sips are too bold and burnt - making one grimace but then I become accustomed to the roasted intensity. Still it is a bit too rough on the tongue and the stomach. Its just not subtle enough to enjoy.

I had this in the normal stout label. It was an excellent reprisintation of the style. Nice roasted malt and bitter balance with just the right amount of sweet. Good beer.
