Commercial Description:
As the days grow shorter and colder in Bavaria, shoppers exhausted from a day at the open air market look forward to stopping by their local for a nourishing glass of the seasonal specialty: Weihnachtsbier. Snowstorm 2008 was designed with the cold days of winter in mind. Reddish brown in color with a complex maltiness yielding hints of spicy rye, sourdough, and chocolate. Brewed with nine different malts, including copious amounts of Munich and a touch of Rye.

Bottle courtesy of Dalzale. Pours copper brown with a light tan head. Smells of caramel, spice, dark fruit, earthy. Tastes of roses, some bitter hints, caramel, some sweetness, nice spiciness as the beer warms. There’s a lot going on here. NIce!

Light umber color with a hint of rudy. Smallish ecru head. Scents of german chocolate, dark caramel and sourdough bread. LIght sweet nutty start. Toasted bread rye bread in the middle. Little bit of dried floral hops. At times the feel and flavor seem watery. The sourness sticks a bit too long in the linger.

I have tried this both on tap and bottled. Deep copper brown body with a yellowish khaki head. The aroma has some notes of old leather and apples. There is also some wet dog. The taste has toffee, leather and apples. There is also some sweet biscuit and rye. There is a little bit of almond. A nice brew.

On draught during the ABR ’08 in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a hazy caramel amber brew with a thick beige head that has some good retention and some spotty lacing. Aroma of slightly smoked caramel malt, some roasted nuts, powdered biscuits and some mild hard fruits. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of powdered caramel malt, a touch of tobacco, chocolate and light herbal spices. Finish is semi-dry with a good balance of grain and floral hop bitterness.

Autumn Brew Review 2008. Murky brown color with a medium head. Caramel malt and dusty grain/hop aroma. Sweet malt flavor. The brew takes a very unexpected turn into a light tartness and some fruitiness, mostly cherry. Quite different.

In the bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a very dark brown with ruby accents. It’s almost black with a serious off-white head that lasts. This has an understated aroma of hazelnuts and roasted coffee with caramel splashes. The flavor is very chocolate-like with a nice hop wrap-up. This is way thicker in body than regular Schell’s offerings. Very festive and delightful.

Lots of yeast in this beer. I also taste rye. A little sour, and surprisingly, the yeast of a weizen beer. Good, like most years of Snowstorm.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful amber with a nice head. Aroma is autumn leaves and malt. Flavor is slightly dirty strawberry and malt. Average mouthfeel. I’d write more but I’m kinda buzzed right now.
