This rating was from the Hop In The City event where brews from the previous year were sampled (5 oz) by the attendees from kegs. This brew poured a small head of mostly diminishing off-white colored large sized bubbles that left behind a transparent uncarbonated light brown colored body. The aroma was mildly malted and the mouthfeel was slightly biting. The only flavor I got from it was that of the hops.

When poured, this beer had a small sized ivory head that contained fine-large sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body was clear and uncarbonated with a orange hue.The nose was lightly malty and moderately hoppy and sweet. The flavor was bitter tasting from start to finish along with a tingly and smooth mouthfeel and it was light-medium bodied.

Thin, slippery body beneath a less than adequate toffeeish malt structure. Very average.

Pours copper with a tight white head. The aroma has caramel that is rich and malty as well as being quite smooth. The body is thin and metallic with sharp carbonation. The taste has some of the caramel, but that is eclipsed by tinny sharp fruits. This one was not enjoyable to me at all.

Pour is a bright golden with a nice size white head. Aroma is very much malts and a slight touch of hops. Hops are more pronounced in the flavor but the malts show up with a nice bready taste. Above par.

Clear reddish copper appearance, stiff off-white head with good retentive powers, slowly dissipated into thin lacing, light amount of ringed sticking. Smoky grains, toasted caramel malts and herbal hops are very prevalent in the aroma. A subtle orange and lemon fruitiness in the background. Velvety, but firm moderate body, a touch of herbal oily slickness in the palate. Toasted grains and sweet caramelized malts along with a slight touch of smoke. Orange and lemon fruitiness emerges in the middle, adding a sweet and sour effect in the taste. The earthy leafiness and herbal hop spiciness helped to give this a great dry finish. This was quite pleasant on a cool night in the River City, robust enough to chase away any chills. On-tap at the Taproom.

Hop in the City '03: Dark gold - hugely hoppy aroma, whole cones and pine. The aroma is pleasant, but where's the malt? Clean bitter flavours with some rind and more pine. I enjoyed this beer, but it was missing the malt that makes Schlafly beers so good.

Hoppy nose, but softer without as much citrus as the Hop harvest. some graininess and citrus in the flavor.
