definite hoppy smell. Pretty, bubbly dark copper with an average off-white head. Hoppy bready. Can’t taste much else. Palate is what you would expect. Good beer.

"Expedition Reserve " Bottle from Frugal McDugal in Nashville. Pours amber gold with a dissipating white head. Aroma is of citrus and sweet bread. Medium light texture with average carbonation. Initial flavor of caramel and toasted grains. Middle has a smooth spicy hop bite, with notes of peach, apricot, and strong iced tea. Clean and bitter finish that is semi dry. Much better than their regular Pale Ale. UPDATE: 8-23-07, I picked up the relabeled bottle "Dry Hopped APA", which is a tweaked version of this recipe. Very nice improvements indeed. Good floral and grapefruit hop aroma, more grapefruit citrus flavors, and less tea like bitterness. I bumped this up a few points. Plus they date their bottles- THANK YOU. If I can get a fresh flow of this stuff, it will be a regular in my session fridge

This American Pale Ale pours a light amber gold color from a 120z bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is apricot, fruity, citrus, grapefruit and sweet. A medium bodied APA. Malts are caramel and fruity, lots of apricots flavors here. Hops are citrusy and grapefruity. Nice balance between the malts and hops. Good lively carbonation. Sweet tasting but has a nice hop bite. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Schlafly Expedition Reserve (American Pale Ale)

Date: 4/26/2007
Event: Dogfish Head at Dilly Deli. Actually, the event was kind of a bust, but luckily Tmoney99 brought a bunch of beer to share so it turned our to be an an impromptu tasting... Thanks Tom!
Location: Dilly Deli - Wines & Gourmet.
Serving: 12 oz bottle; "Brewed with love on July 12, 2006". Shared by Tom (Tmoney99). Thanks!

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Light caramel and fuzzy peach. Quite unique!
Appearance: Deep golden (orange) color.
Flavor: Toasted malts, toffee, and light peach hops. Mild, smooth bitterness.
Palate: Light and enjoyable.
Overall: According the the "Expedition Reserve" label, this is classified as an amber ale (per Schlafly). However, it isn’t really an amber ale in any way, but it is a pretty nice pale ale...

Pours a hazy amber with a large, pillowy, off-white head. The retention just screams hops and the nose tells the same story. Heavy pine and grapefruit scents dominate the nose, while the mouthfeel is medium-bodied and slick, finishing bitter. Pine and grapefruit hit you right off the bat, with a sweet malty balance following the initial hit. The flavor definitely favors the hops, but not to the extent of an IPA. A pleasant, lingering hop bitterness caps things off. I found this to be one of the more flavorful APAs that I’ve sampled, and @ $5.49 a sixer, on sale, a real bargain to boot.
