I loath when breweries do this -- shameless marketing. When you sell a Reserve, it had better actually be that. OK, about the ale. I was fooled by the aroma (which actually has nice hoppy nose). The color isn’t bad either. But the flavor lets me down every time. Very dull on the hoppy flavor. For Schlafly beers overall, I just don’t like their palate or mouthfeel. A bit too fizzy for me, and it’s the same with every beer.
Now that you know my opinions about Schlafly, you should also know that I drink their beer quite frequently (Reason: I’m in St. Louis, and I refuse to drink Budweiser unless I’m watching a Cards game). By the way, GO CARDS! WORLD CHAMPS 2006! smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2006 Good body and bitterness from this pale ale. Light on aromas, but the taste compensates for any shortcomings with a healthy spice and herb contribution from the hops. Even better is the rustic, bready, grainy nature of the beer, carrying many sweet caramel malts to a drying finish. Full and balanced -- a great beer from Schlafly. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA

Poured a hazy orangy, copperish golden with a foamy white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Had a nose of floral, grassy hops with a touch of herbalness, and sweet caramelized malts.
Nice light carbonation and a crisp, dryish and smooth lightish medium bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant APA taste, floral, herbal hops with a hint of fruitiness, a soft bitterness, caramelized malts, towards the end a light grassiness comes out and a dry herbal, grassy and bready finish, good simple APA drinkability.
In my opinion, one of Schlafly better brews, tasty, balanced and very quaffable.
One final note, I realized that some people want to call this a renamed Expedtion Reserve, but it is not, the ABV for is 5.9% for the Dry-hopped APA and their is a different malt. yeast and hop recipe used. Gabemik (46), Joplin, Missouri, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 14, 2006 12 oz Bottle: Pours a light yellowy gold with a thick fluffy with a hazy carbonation along the top layer. Head goes away fairly quickly. Smells of bananas, citrus and floral hops, bread dough, grapefruit. Flavor is nice. A little more malt in the flavor than on the nose. Smooth creamy texture, and an overall nice beer.
