Commercial Description:
This full-bodied, deep-amber ale is very strong and malty. Brewed with a special Belgian yeast, this beer is traditionally brewed by Trappist monks. (Available mid-February.)

Arrived at the table a vibrant ruby red color with a very thin film of a head. Has a sweet malt aroma with some bitterness. Beer has a nice sweet flavor, some grassy hops notes and a little bit of apricot and banana fruitiness too it. Overall the beer is good but it was a bit on the light side and seems a little watery.

Draft at the taproom. Cold. Brown, filtered no head. Nose is malty, spicy, sugary. Taste is sweet, candi sugar, spicy, a bit alcoholic that is well hidden. Thin mouth. Not bad and easy to drink but not what I think of as a traditional Belgium dubbel.

Draft at the Taproom. Reddish brown, looking more like an American Brown Ale. Light aroma of cooked sugars, relatively smooth at first, but then bites back as it slides down. Still pretty mild for a dubbel, but a good brew. (#3019, 7/14/2007)

Brown with off white head. Sweet aroma, decent body. Lacked expected fruityness. Doesn’t seem to be a real Belgian Dubbel. Drinkable, but disappointing as this style is typically among my favorites.

Pours chestnut brown with a light haze and an off-white head. The aroma is overly sweet with caramel, brown sugar and syrup. Medium body with a good bit of crispness and then fairly cloying on the finish. The flavor starts out sweet, but then some astringency and cardboard comes in. The finish has a mix of dryness and syrupiness. Certainly not a true dubbel, but okay if you look at it as a brewpub doing an American version of one.

Pour is a brown with a small white head. Aroma is malts and a big dose of alcohol. Flavor is a complete miss. No real candy sugar or fruitness. Some malts show up and again with the alcohol but that’s about it. Their triple is decent..this not so much.

Pours a reddish amber. Very subtle flavors in this brew, and a very smooth texture. Slightly sweet with some fruit flavors, maybe apricot and wheat. Fairly good Dubbel; I thought it was better than the Ratebeer rating suggested.

I really enjoyed this. It was quite alcholic but drank very smooth. I liked the subtle fruitness.
